Animal Collective Merriweather Post Pavilion |
Everyone hates this album for unconventionality? For being highly praised? What kind of logic is that? Why can't we just enjoy fantastic, swirling melodies on top of tightly wrapped rhythms? Oh, because it's a hipster album, right. Fuck conventions, this album SOUNDS fantastic. I enjoy it for the music, not the scene around it. |
Animal Collective Strawberry Jam |
I remember reading on wikipedia that Panda Bear wanted this album to sound like a packet of those glossy packets of Smuckers strawberry jam, thus the album title. I think they nailed it, personally. Shiny and artificial, but totally sweet. |

Animal Collective Sung Tongs |
It's light. It's spacey. It's quirky. It's a little self-indulgent. And it's certainly NOT for everyone. But I love this album to death. It's almost certainly a summer album, and you can tell that Animal Collective had a lot of fun recording these tracks. |
Animal Collective Fall Be Kind |
At the Drive-In In/Casino/Out |
Passionate and energetic, At the Drive-In deliver their best album by far, mostly because it's more cohesive than Relationship of Command. They stick to the same formula throughout the album while crafting unique melodies and backing it up with instantly recognizable vocals. |

Keane Under The Iron Sea |
I think this is one album that I worship that most people would disagree with. It's pop music and therefore doesn't sit well with everyone, but listening to Under the Iron Sea all the way through feels just like the liner notes describe; it's as if you're descending deeper into this ocean world ripe with crazy, fantastic, and slightly scary things and Keane is singing about them. I love it. Also, Tom Chaplin has the voice of a god. |
Late of the Pier Fantasy Black Channel |
This album is chaotic, spontaneous, and a lot of fun to listen to. Dance punk isn't a genre I would consider myself keen to listen to, but Late of the Pier makes their brand accessible and thrilling. It's a shame they haven't been planning on releasing new material any time soon, because these guys made this album at such a young age with so much potential ahead of them. "Focker" is still one of my favorite tracks. |

So maybe you don't like power chords and scratchy vocals, but you cannot deny the emotion that this album has. It's filled to the brim with mood changes, fights, and heartbreaking choruses. Best of all, the dueling vocals make the back-and-forth affair feel raw and personal. This will always be one of my favorite albums. |

Japandroids Post-Nothing |
Maybe it was the initial hype I read that made this album such a let-down, but it really rdidn't blow me away as I was expecting it to. A few songs were great but didn't seem to rmatch well with what came afterwards. Very lo-fi if you're into that. I really did like r"Young Hearts Spark Fire" and "Wet Hair".rEdit: scratch that. "I Quit Girls" is epic. |

This album is taught, rich, and brings rock music back to where it belongs. Critics can continue to cry parallels between this and OK Computer, but I'd point out that Muse uses techniques that Radiohead doesn't. Heavy distortion and wild falsetto solos make Bellamy's craft his very own. This is just one of those albums I'll cherish forever. |
Muse Hullabaloo Soundtrack |
Mux Mool Skulltaste |
Mux Mool is way too talented to remain this unknown. Skulltaste harnesses his creativity to make an album both glitchy and mellow. It's the abrupt progression of the album as a whole that holds me back from giving it a higher rating, but if you're a fan of electronica that transcends multiple genres, give it a try. |
