Amon Amarth Versus the World
From start to finish, Amon Amarth hits you with full force. Brutality, Melody, and excellent song structure make this an excellent listen even by today's standards. Strongest songs would be Across the Rainbow Bridge and Where Silent Gods stand guard. My favourite album by them and is truly one of the best melodic death albums ever.
Between the Buried and Me Alaska
Although most people prefer the successful giant album Colors over this, I have found this to be better for a few reasons. In my opinion the song structure is much better here. The songs don't drag on as much as in Colors, and don't have an overburden of breakdowns like their first two albums. Selkies, All Bodies, and Backward Marathon are my top 3 on here, but all the songs including the instrumentals are strong and keep me interested over multiple listens.
Between the Buried and Me Colors
This band is truly hated on this site, or the people who genuinely like them hide in their closets scared that KILL will find them.
Between the Buried and Me The Parallax II: Future Sequence
A new album, a new sound. Almost match Alaska with this album. Melting Cities chorus is the best they have every written imo. No weak spots other then Autumn instrumental.
Botch An Anthology of Dead Ends
Camel Moonmadness
Children of Bodom Hatebreeder
Most bands first or second album is usually considered their best. In this case I agree with this statement. Though their first album had great instrumental sections, the production was raw, and Alexi's vocals weren't nearly as good. This really took it to the next level, and had all the elements of a excellent album. Riffs are common, but the soloing is where it really shines. Black Widow is my favourite song from here, and the solo in its Chorus gets me every time. Sadly after this album, COB would slowly get worse and worse.
Cynic Focus
Dark Tranquillity The Gallery
Death Spiritual Healing
Death Symbolic
Decapitated Nihility
Every song is amazing, with such well timed solo's and amazing riffs. Probably my favorite death metal band as of right now.
Decapitated Winds of Creation
DevilDriver The Last Kind Words
Every song is perfect or close to it, better then the rest of their albums.
Devin Townsend Ocean Machine: Biomech
Dot Hacker Inhibition
Extol Synergy
A very interesting change in Extol's style that I found myself loving every step of the way.
Extol Undeceived
Extol Burial
Genesis Foxtrot
Gotic Escenes
Immolation Close to a World Below
In Flames The Jester Race
One of the founders of melodeath gets it right with their defining album.
In Flames Colony
In Flames Clayman
My favorite In Flames album. Every song is so well written and quite catchy with their pop influences being shown. However, it is nowhere near as overwhelming as their next two albums would be and is quite near flawless for the melodeath genre.
In Mourning Shrouded Divine
After 5 or so listens I found out how truly mindblowing this album is.
Lamb of God As the Palaces Burn
Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin
Metallica Ride the Lightning
Metallica Kill 'Em All
Minus the Bear Planet of Ice
Necrophagist Onset of Putrefaction
Neutral Milk Hotel In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
Nine Inch Nails The Downward Spiral
Opeth Blackwater Park
Opeth Ghost Reveries
Pantera Cowboys from Hell
Protest the Hero Fortress
Radiohead The Bends
Rush Clockwork Angels
Rush A Farewell to Kings
Rush Moving Pictures
Rush Permanent Waves
Soilwork The Living Infinite
The Agonist Prisoners
You know they have done something right when you love their previous album, but barely take time to listen to it because you are busy listening to this.
The Dillinger Escape Plan Option Paralysis
The National High Violet
Trivium Shogun
Trivium creates their best album so far. Every song is consistently technically proficient, and contain most of their best riffs of their career. Solo's are not super often, which is good, because than it may seem like they are trying too hard. When you come across one, they are so well written and are quite different from most other metal core bands.
Vader Welcome To The Morbid Reich
