The recorded concerts (both the video/audio) taken at the end of the 80's and early 90's chronicle Metallica at the peak of their powers. Every member is on top on their game (including Lars), James finally comes out of his shell as a vocalist and delivers some powerhouse performances, markedly improving the vocal melodies of songs from their older albums. Its a thoroughly exhaustive record (theres the audio concert and the filmed concerts), and perhaps the last truly great Metallica release (with the exception of S&M). An essential insight to the period where Metallica ruled the rock and metal world. Their best song's may be found on other albums, but this albums plays out a perfect arrangement and blend of songs. The album as a whole is less experimental and more mainstream compared to previous albums but this results in more focused and purposeful approach overall. A thoroughly enjoyable listen from start to finish. Paramore's discography at this point consisted of fairly standard material, but do they know how to up the ante on the live stage. The songs from their first albums sound infinitely better on the live album with tighter instrumentation n better vocals. And then there's the expanded sections made solely for the performance. Hayley dominates the her role with strong vocals and charisma, but the other members aren't far behind, especially drummer Zac Farro who rips through the setlist with a freedom and abandon not seen on the studio albums. Paramore have put in alot of effort and work into this live performance, and the results are excellent.Paramore Brand New EyesSlayer Hell AwaitsYellowcard Paper Walls3.5 greatAC/DC Dirty Deeds Done Dirt CheapAC/DC High VoltageAgalloch Ashes Against the GrainAmon Amarth With Oden on Our SideAugust Burns Red MessengersColdplay A Rush of Blood to the HeadDisturbed IndestructibleExplosions in the Sky The Earth Is Not a Cold Dead PlaceIn Flames WhoracleIron Maiden Iron MaidenIron Maiden KillersKillswitch Engage The End of HeartacheLamb of God WrathLamb of God ResolutionMaroon 5 It Won't Be Soon Before LongMastodon The HunterMegadeth United AbominationsMetallica MetallicaMotley Crue Red, White, & CruePantera Vulgar Display of PowerParamore Riot!Simple Plan No Pads, No Helmets... Despite this being undeniably Muse, they have changed their formula somewaht . Incorporating more electronic/industrial elements, Muse seem hell-bent on writing mid tempo anthemic stadium songs ala Queen. As as a result gone are the whirlwind tracks in the vein of Stockholm or Assasin and the slower numbers aren't any better than they've already done. Then there's Exogenesis, a 3 track 12 minute song that closes the album, that despite utilizing an entire orchestra and classical influences isn't quite the mind-blowing song it attempts to be. In terms of musicianship everything is top notch, but because of the song-writing the instruments never take the center stage. Those who raved Bellamy for riff driven Muse classics such as Plug in Baby and Stockholm, or even those who went mad for the bassline on Hysteria will be dissapointed. Dominic is reduced for the most part to your basic anthemic quarter note beats. Save the Exogensis, the vocal's undoubtedly make the leads for most the songs. All in all the album definitely warrants a better than average rating, but not much more. There's plenty of catchy songs which provide fun and an orchestral rock piece which is cause for interest, but there's nothing of real substance here, nothing truly great or amazing. A poor album my Muse's standards, but not a disaster by any means.Paramore All We Know Is Falling2.5 averageAthlete TouristBullet for My Valentine FeverBullet get more mainstream (if that's even possible) with this release. This is your standard fare when it comes to generic mainstream metalcore. The lyrics are terrible but the instrumentation on the songs aren't half bad, and the members prove they can write catchy hooks and play with technical competency.Joshua Radin Simple TimesYellowcard When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes2.0 poorMaroon 5 Hands All Over1.5 very poorTrivium The Crusade
