Amia Venera Landscape The Long Procession
For a very long piece of art, one's exhaustion will be predictable after listening to this.
For a genre that's starting to wane, this band brought out a different output just by mixing
out those cliched simple, obvious techniques. Highlighting technicality put no drawback to
their sense of creativity. |
Anberlin Cities
Arcade Fire Funeral
Celebrating mortality instead of merely grieving over it, Arcade Fire has created one of the few original indie rock albums in the modern time. The instruments and lyrics are both beautiful and emotional. A very tight debut that simply proves how Arcade Fire is one of the best modern bands.
At the Drive-In Relationship of Command
The rawness of the album is the reason why it is held as one of hard rock's classic albums. This is a gem for the post-hardcore genre. Highlights include the afro-beat of the Arcarsenal; their most famous song One Armed Scissors; and the piano-laden Invalid Letter Dept. Those aside, every track is enjoyable and not even one should be skipped.
Atheist Unquestionable Presence
Coming from a death metal band, using jazz-like harmonies, subtle Latin rhythms and unusual time signatures surely makes it one of a unique album. It is widely considered as a landmark album in the genre of technical death metal.
Between the Buried and Me Colors_Live
Playing the whole album live is not an easy feat, yet this live album still sounds amazing. A few mistakes may be done, but are tolerable. The second part, playing fan-requested tracks should not also be missed.
Between the Buried and Me The Parallax II: Future Sequence
Boris Boris At Last - Feedbacker
Boris Flood
Brand New The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me
Some will say that this album has a progressive mix to it, but who am I to disagree with them? Brand New has created a very dark yet still attractive album. Some may dislike this album because of the simple song structures but it is one reason why it still stands beyond passage of time, it has become familiar yet captivating at the same time.
Burial Untrue
This album right here shows how tight production should be done. The creative utilization of samples is really the distinctive trait of Burial. The album marked a development in Burial's sound; it employed pitch-shifted and time-stretched vocal samples in many tracks, in comparison to his previous mostly instrumental work. It really wasn't a shocker when this one received many plaudits.
Circle Takes The Square As the Roots Undo
Insanely chaotic, it perfectly mixes post-rock, post-hardcore, screamo, and thrash into an understandable mess. The dual male-female vocals trading-off is possibly the strength of CTTS. Also, the instrumental work are top-notch.
Circle Takes The Square Decompositions: Volume Number One
Coheed and Cambria In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3
Investing on the visual aspect, the lyrics truly create a rich story which I guess everyone knows right now. The instrumentalists are extremely talented, Claudio's vocals attract me in a way (in little doses), and the lyrics are well-written. In this album, nothing is traded off, it is catchy yet still proggy. The title track is probably the best song they have written, 8 minutes of epicness.rFavorite tracks: Title track, Faint of Hearts, The Light & The Glass.
Coheed and Cambria The Second Stage Turbine Blade
Truly a great mix of musicality, meaningful lyrics, and poppy sensibilities, C&C's debut is a mix of a lot of genres, from post-hardcore, pop punk, and prog rock. The strength of this album is the storyline, I must say.rFavorite tracks: Time Consumer, Devil in Jersey City, Neverender, and Godsend Conspirator
Coheed and Cambria Neverender
EVERY Coheed and Cambria fan should have this live album. This one is made for the fans, not to gather new followers. Performing all of their albums live and playing them awesomely. Coheed and Cambria is a very great band live, that they have even exceeded what they do in the studio.
Converge Jane Doe
Seldom can we see a hardcore album to be critically successful, but alas, Converge has done it with their most famous masterpiece Jane Doe. With the intelligent lyrics, and insane acrobatic instrumentation, Jane Doe has altered a whole genre, proving that it should be at the top. Some may be put off by Jacob's "pig squeals", but it just needs a little time to get used to it. I recommend to listen to Homewrecker, and the two Phoenix. Really, a brutal and angry album.
Counting Crows August And Everything After
Cynic Focus
This album is usually recommended when one asks for a jazz-influenced metal album. Some say this is prog metal, while others coined a different term "jazz metal". Both can be right, elements of both can be found: progressive rock/metal is reflected in some song structures and occasional odd-time meters, while jazz influences are evident in some harmonic and rhythmic phenomena. The trading off of death grunts are vocoder vocals is quite attractive. Every aspect: lyrics, instrumentation, vocals are too advanced for their time. I recommend you go to Cynic Sphere to learn how to play every parts. A very influential album for the Prog Metal genre.
Daft Punk Discovery
Fueled with nostalgia, Discovery is a tribute album to the music from 1975 to 1985. Relying heavily on samples, the songs are still very cohesive, and another good thing about Daft Punk is they make a lot of their samples themselves. The solo on Digital Love is my favorite part. Truly a classic album for electronic music. Also great for club music!
Darkthrone The Underground Resistance
Deftones White Pony
Deftones' magnum opus, Deftones have melded Alternative Metal with New Age and shoegaze influences. Lyrics are intelligently composed that even Wikipedia has a concise summary for it. Highlights include electronic soundscapes at Digital Bath, and the vocal bridge in Knife Party.
Deftones Koi No Yokan
So good, it sounds awesome, still on the first track and the 3 singles. Gotta do a proper soundoff later. Yeah.
Derek and the Dominos Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs
Like a very long journey, finishing this album is so contemplating. Every song is varied from each other and Eric Clapton's guitar skills are still topnotch.
DIR EN GREY Uroboros
The album is named after the Ouroboros symbol, which is a dragon or snake figure depicted in full circle consuming itself. This represents continuity and the cycle of power, emphasizing the theme of reincarnation, an idea propagated heavily by the band during promotion. Melding eastern with western sounds feels like a hard thing to do, yet our Japanese friends Dir En Grey have perfected this style. A lot of world instruments were utilized, and still doesn't sound overwhelming. This is possibly one of the best albums ever made by a very innovative band.
Dispatch Bang Bang
From a band with influences from 70s and 90s, Bang Bang sounds like a very awesome Jam Rock album. A lot of influences are heard, reggae, dub, funk, etc. This is probably my favorite underground release, that is if we consider Dispatch underground.

Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here
Despite exploring the theme of absence, and the fact that recording sessions were very problematic, Wish You Were Here feels like a very complete epic album. The title track is definitely one of my favorite tracks by this band. The centerpiece track Shine On You Crazy Diamond also shares a lot of awesome moments. Definitely a tight musique concrete, the electronic soundscape serves as the cornerstone and the guitars add flavor to the mix. All 5 tracks I say are amazing and wonderful.
Pink Floyd The Dark Side of the Moon
Expecting the band to fall out after the leaving of principal member Syd Barrett is a very wrong notion. The Dark Side of the Moon has proven that Pink Floyd's silly experimentation will make sure that they'll survive. The ridiculous usage of household objects, mixed with advanced production is the band's staple to make this album big. Every track is amazingly done, yet the highlight for me is the non-lexical vocals heard at The Great Gig in the Sky, and the tracks Money and Us and Them.

Thursday No Devolucion
This marks a very large progression of Thursday. Unlike bands that fail to cohesively mix genres, Thursday has impressively fused ambient, post-rock instrumentation along with post-hardcore atmosphere, topped with Geoff's heartfelt and improved vocals. They really have proved themselves to be one of the pillars of post-hardcore.

It took me a few spins to avoid being bothered by the vocals. It was awful of me to listen to this EP first out of their whole discography. It may be true that his vocals may give polarized remarks, but this is definitely fine. This unfortunately short EP grew out on me. And for those who are bothered by his vocals, listen to their first post-hardcore-laced releases. It won't be much of a bummer there. Then sooner, you'll appreciate him well.

I do admit I rated this album higher than what I would really give, but I appreciate their efforts in giving out a really good collection of songs. This album has a lot of filler tracks, knowing that some songs were already written before Kurt's arrival. But I don't mind. In this album, I treat Cory and Kurt's vocals as instruments. Kurt was intently made to shine here, and I just hate that.

Pink Floyd The Wall
| This is the best example of how a musician's personal experience can define the direction of an album. Because of one simple event, this album has explored a lot of very heavy themes.
