5.0 classic
Aphex Twin Selected Ambient Works 85-92
One of the most important ambient albums ever released. At a glance the music seems boring and simple, but when you really take the time to listen, a masterpiece is revealed.
Aphex Twin Selected Ambient Works Volume II
Black Star Black Star
Boards of Canada Music Has the Right to Children
Simply a must have for any fan of ambient electronic music
Brian Eno Another Green World
One of the earliest examples of true ambient music, this album is an instant classic alone for the fact that it helped forge an entire genre and influenced countless bands and artists in the process. The music is sort of a mix mash of Eno's earlier rock music and the electronic ambient music that he would focus on more in future albums. Some of the songs rank among Eno's finest work (In Dark Trees, Sky Saw, Becalmed).
Burzum Filosofem
Converge Jane Doe
Jane Doe is an album that is so angry and brutal that many will find it intolerable. But, those that approach it with an open mind and give it a chance will most likely discover a masterpiece. The album starts off at a furious pace, opening with "Concubine", a screaming grindcore frenzy that only barely slows down for the mathy and complex "Fault and Fracture." The rest of the album stays at relatively the same pace, rarely slowing down for a few calmer moments. The album's highlight is the finale, the epic 11 minute title track that wraps everything up with perfection and leaves the listener stunned even after it's over. Jane Doe is a fantastic album and most people who give it a full listen will probably agree

Godspeed You! Black Emperor Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven
ISIS Panopticon
J Dilla Donuts
Jeff Buckley Grace
Moondog Moondog
Mr. Bungle California
The third and unfortunately the final Mr. Bungle masterpiece. Here, the band pleasantly surprises fans with a more pop influenced approach while still maintaining their goofy, unpredictable style that they have been known so well for. Mike Patton really shines here with some of the best vocal performances that he's produced since Angel Dust. The musicianship is unsurprisingly top notch as well.

Mayhem De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas
Meshuggah I
Absolutely unreal, 21 minutes of relentless insanity. The music literally sounds as if it was made by an alien race. I simply represents Meshuggah at their very best
Mr. Bungle Disco Volante
The second album in the classic Mr. Bungle trilogy. The band's music is more abstract and challenging here than it ever was, I you can believe that considering how abstract and challenging their first album is. Here, the band basically crams every genre that they could possibly think of into one album and make it seem easy to pull off. This album is unlike anything heard in music before or after, few bands would ever dare create music as complex as this
Mr. Bungle Mr. Bungle
the first of three amazing perfect albums by one of the most underappreciated bands in music history

An experimental masterpiece, nearly flawless album that is consistently amazing from beginning to end, it's difficult to get the full experience unless you listen to the whole album instead of just individual tracksr
The Residents Duck Stab
The Rolling Stones Exile on Main St.
The Roots undun

As far as old school prog goes, this is one of the finest examples

4.0 excellent
2Pac All Eyez on Me
Aesop Rock Labor Days
Aphex Twin ...I Care Because You Do
Some tracks here are amazing, others are okay, none are bad. Ventolin stands out as being extremely hard on the ears (much unlike the rest of the album) and is actually a good listen for those that can tolerate it. The majority of the album is an interesting mix of acid and ambient music, sometimes with a bit of orchestra style as well

Dream Theater Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory
Fantomas Suspended Animation
The spastic insanity in the music of Fantomas is so unlike anything heard before in music before that it really has to be heard to be believed. Suspended Animation is a 30 track album, with very few songs exceeding 2 minutes in length, all of them walking a thin line between coherence and all out chaos. Unsurprisingly vocalist Mike Patton wrote all the music and provided a very fitting performance, filled with shrieks and noises that only he could pull off. Though, the highlight is Dave Lombardo's spot on drumming. Obviously the album is highly inaccessible to most but it is highly recommended to anyone that enjoys avant-garde music

Mastodon Blood Mountain
Meshuggah Catch Thirtythree
Meshuggah obZen
Mos Def Black on Both Sides
Napalm Death Scum
One of the most influential if not THE most influential and revolutionary hardcore/metal albums ever created.
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Shahen-Shah
Opeth Damnation
Polkadot Cadaver Purgatory Dance Party
Heavily influenced by Mr. Bungle but in some ways is even more sick and twisted and with more influence on metal. Also quite a bit less experimental. Still, there is a good deal of variety and will most likely be enjoyed by fans of Mr. Bungle. It isn't hard to tell that this is a resulting project after the disbandment of the even more metal oriented Dog Fashion Disco.
Porcupine Tree Deadwing
Radiohead Amnesiac
Ravi Shankar Three Ragas
Secret Chiefs 3 Book M
Sun Kil Moon Ghosts of the Great Highway
Talib Kweli Quality
The Avalanches Wildflower
The Dillinger Escape Plan Irony Is a Dead Scene
The Orb Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld
This album needs more attention because it certainly ranks among the greats. It's only flaw is that sometimes the songs tend to drag a bit longer than necessary

Brian Eno Ambient 1: Music For Airports
Busdriver Temporary Forever
The debut album of the exceptionally talented rapper Busdriver, Temporary Forever is a wacky, sometimes ridiculous album that is not only unique, but is very far away from most rap albums out there, including the world of underground rap. Though despite this, Busdriver still managed to achieve a bit of popularity in the underground world, mostly due to the album's obvious highlight "Imaginary Places" being featured in a Tony Hawk video game. Busdriver's most notable talent is the ability to rap at almost impossibly fast speeds (as heard on "Imaginary Places). Unfortunately this talent is rarely displayed again throughout the rest of the album, yet, would seem to lose its charm if it were used too often anyway. Fast or not, the rest of the songs are consistently good but usually don't get too much better than that, aside for some standout shining moments (Gun Control, Along Came A Biter, The Truth of Spontaneous Human Combustion). Definitely worth a listen
Clams Casino Rainforest
Cloudkicker The Discovery
A very good effort from solo artist Cloudkicker (Ben Sharp), The Discovery is an instrumental metal album that is filled with catchy riffs and odd time signatures reminiscent to Meshuggah's Catch-33. Though unlike Catch-33, The Discovery also contains elements of ambient music that is displayed in songs like "Everything's Mirrors" and "Covington." Most of the songs are very similar in sound and structure and focus heavily on repetition of evolving riffs and patterns. Although some may understandably find it to be boring, others will simply fail to tire of its undeniable catchiness. A solid album that should be checked out, especially if you are a fan of Djent and/or Meshuggah

The Dillinger Escape Plan Ire Works
The Residents The Third Reich 'n Roll
The Residents Commercial Album
An album with a clever concept, The Residents being one of the most mysterious and bizarre bands ever, have expressed their distaste with mainstream pop music on more than a few occasions. And on this album, they decided to make 40 one minute "commercial pop songs" poking fun at the simplicity and basic formula of most pop music. Although the album alone is pretty good, watching the creative and equally strange music videos that accompany each song makes for an even better experience

Mike Patton Adult Themes for Voice
contains absolutely zero melody or musical elements whatsoever, the whole album is entirely made of Mike Patton's voice, sometimes either distorted or altered in some way. Still, there's a lot going on and is actually quite interesting to listen to.
Orthrelm OV
I can't believe actually sat through and endured the entire thing, which is something that an album usually should never try to make it's listeners say after listening to it, but I don't really understand what other reaction orthrelm was aiming for when they recorded this. Still, the musicianship is top notch and things do change up every once in a while (and their live performances have to be seen to be believed), but everything is dragged out to such ridiculous lengths that none of that seems to matter in the end. This will likely end up being the longest 45 minutes of your life
Power Trip Nightmare Logic
Sirenia The 13th Floor
Not a bad album but not necessarily a good one either. It is overall a bit forgettable except for a few songs. The main highlight of the album is without a doubt "The Path to Decay"
Skrillex Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites
Sun Kil Moon Common As Light and Love Are Red Valleys of Blood

Bring Me the Horizon Suicide Season Cut Up!
why would anyone want to hear remixed versions of the same songs, I can never understand remix albums
Disturbed The Sickness
Sort of boring and predictable, which is a bit typical with more than a few nu-metal groups around today. If you like bands where most of their songs sound the same then Disturbed is the band for you.
Drake More Life
Future Honest
Lou Reed and Metallica Lulu
............................What is this I don't even
Radiohead Pablo Honey
Typical 90s rock that's been done better by other bands and is so dull that it barely leaves any lasting impression at all, radiohead ended up becoming a miracle story of a band that at first seemed boring and ordinary but quickly became one of the most innovative and influential popular music groups around. Few other music groups have ever made such a dramatic improvement. This album definitely should be avoided (especially for those that are new to the band), though many diehard radiohead fans will probably still like it simply because it's radiohead
Skrillex My Name Is Skrillex
Slipknot All Hope Is Gone

1.5 very poor
Bruno Mars Doo-Wops & Hooligans
"The Other Side" is the album's main highlight but it can not save this album from total atrocities like "The Lazy Song" and "Just the Way You Are." Some other songs are mediocre, all of it lacks any attempt at originality
Chief Keef Finally Rich
Lil Wayne Tha Carter IV
Limp Bizkit Results May Vary
Metallica St. Anger
Nickelback The Long Road
Another painfully boring Nickelback album, that's all there is to it
Nickelback Dark Horse
Most people would simply rate this badly and move on just because it's Nickelback, but unlike most people I actually listened to this album and really tried to approach it with an open mind. Well, the only thing Nickelback has proven here is that they know how to play something other than chords and a few songs actually have guitar solos (gasp!). But that's as far as things go. Dark Horse is basically one bland, boring, song after another. "Something In Your Mouth" and "Just To Get High" represent the album's best moments but even they are mediocre at best. Some of the songs are downright agonizing to sit through ("Shakin Hands," "I'd Come For You," "S.E.X."). Basically Nickelback doesn't even make the slightest attempt at covering any new ground or doing anything new musically and yet again do a vast majority of the songs sound almost exactly the same. An incredibly bad effort from an incredibly dull band

The whole album is one big breakdown. There's really no other way to describe it. The vocals are awful beyond belief and the riffs are extremely bland, simply stunning how such a band could get signed and recognized. What's scary is that people consider this Emmure's best effort. Wow
