As white as it may sound, this was my stepping stone into appreciation for Hip Hop. As a 13/14 year old, I hated everything I knew about hip hip, for what I actually knew about it was Lil Wayne/ Ying Twins/ Lil Jon/ Akon/ shittymainstreametc. But for some reason, this caught my attention. Whether it was the ferocity that Em is none for, or the fact that I could... understand?... the words that he was saying actually meant something. Whatever it was, I'll always be grateful for it, because no matter how many new hip hop albums I listen to now, this will always be the reason why I'm listening.

Fuck grandiose. Fuck guest's. And fuck Kanye West. But you know what, this is just as great as the number of acclaim that it gets, and if you can't get that, then you can go fuck yourself. r-Kanye West
Kendrick Lamar To Pimp a Butterfly
Kendrick Lamar good kid, m.A.A.d city
Probably my favorite mainstream Hip Hop release post 1999. It's a classic, and you know what? It may not tell the most original story, but neither did 'The Kings Speech.' The reason why The King's Speech won Best Picture wasn't because it was something we'd never seen before, but because of how much power and attention a true story can bring to the table when done with expertise. And that's the same reason why good kid, m.A.A.d city is the best album of 2012.

Created with a more mainstream approach than 'The Illusion of Safety' as TIoS settled with more technical riffs and crazier math-rock esque solo's to go along with its harsh vocals, everything here is more... concise. The lyrics have matured, the guitars clash to be one with the rest of the music/vocals instead of being the star, and the vocals are spoken through an easier to understand tone. While it may not appeal to the lo-fi that many enjoy in this genre, it appealed to me. And to me, that's all that matters.

Lil Wayne Da Drought 3
Lil Wayne Tha Carter V
surprisingly better than anything you could expect from an up-and-down, now 36 year old Wayne. Wayne's always had flows and hooks, but substance or cringy lyrics have always been his issue, and both of those are at a low for him on TCV. Worth a listen, even for the vaguely interested.

While it certainly isn't bad, it definitely isn't in line with Ox or Blank Face. The hooks on songs like
Water, Drunk, Floating, and Chopstix are inexcusably lazy, especially when you have a guy like Q
who made an album of great hooks on Oxy. However, the beats on this thing, while not redefining
anything in the genre, are pretty great. Die Wit Em, Numb Numb Juice, Attention and Gang Gang
are all stand out tracks. Overall though, this album is a disappointment.
