Anathema Eternity
An overlooked album, that is actually pretty amazing. The Eternity suite is flawless, Radiance is an incredible song that builds and builds until it gets to a climax of beautiful leads and Cries on the Wind is utterly haunting. Only problems are Far Away *yawn* and some vocal inconsistancies

Kayo Dot Dowsing Anemone With Copper Tongue
Kayo Dot Hubardo
Although the seminal Kayo Dot album has always been considered to be Choirs of the Eye, Hubardo has proved itself to be a challenger. Hugely diverse and utterly gripping from start to finish, it is almost a catalogue of the band's career, but - as goes without saying - experiments with new styles to great effect (see: Zlida Caosgi). I would have to say that it is possibly more immediate than anything else in their discography, as long as it is listened to with close attention - this is clearly an album that is meant to be appreciated, rather than just a powerful artistic statement (which it is as well, but it isn't as borderline incomprehensible as, say, Coyote). From the heaviest of the heavy (Floodgate) to the dreamiest song since Amaranth the Peddlar (The Second Operation) to everything in between (Thief), Hubardo is solid gold. Probable album of the year.

John Zorn Angelus Novus
John Zorn The Last Judgement
John Zorn's Moonchild project's final outing is...okay. It's not an especially dramatic finale and
certainly doesn't raise the bar for them, considering some of the excellence they achieved in the
past. Rather, it sounds like a successful formula operating in a comfortable groove; although this
is no bad thing, it certainly sacrifices much of the group's shock value, one of their key
factors. There are a few moments of greatness here - Trinity has some awesome bass (Trevor Dunn
really shines throughout the album) and Le Tombeau De Jacques De Molay is absolutely gorgeous -
but The Last Judgement is ultimately a decent effort that signifies a good time to stop.
