| Any new material by Mark Rose is awesome and there is a definite consistent continuation on his funky, soul-infused love songs, I just feel like a lot of the electronic/rhythmic elements implemented into the arrangements sort of spoil the mood at times and really keep the album from truly shining altogether. rThe best example is the difference between the versions of 'Georgiana' on 'The Sound Of A Turnaround' and 'The Wild Type'. The Rhythmic/keyboard elements are minimal and really compliment the mood of the sound to make the whole effort truly shine. On the new version, the beat and electronics try and take over the already powerful main guitar melody and seem too tedious to really make the outing have the same feel. I can understand trying to give it a new feel and freshen up his idea for the song for his new LP, but it doesn't have the same power and mystique.rThe electronics aren't much of a burden on a track like 'Well & Diet', though. They put the flow of the song into the foreground but they don't detract from the mood of the song. |
