Bob Dylan Blood on the Tracks
It’s still absolutely amazing how this record stands above all other albums, even after so many times of listening and after so many other records recorded. It is a truly timeless masterpiece and can stand to any piece of art created by humanity throughout the ages. It has so much personal appeal while at the same time it is absolutely universal and reveals the most relevant feelings which are common to all human beings, with their genuine love of life, searching for the good, the true and the beautiful, and with the accompanying heartaches and broken promises. It is this record which makes people actually be happy for NOT being special and being the priviledged witnesses of the very common things life is about. Even single lines in it, out of context, make it to perfection and could only be worsened by adding or leaving words. Think about quotes as: ‘I see you in the sky above, in the tall grass, in the ones I love’ or ‘in a world of steel-eyed death and men who are fighting to be warm, com in she said I’ll give you shelter from the storm’. The themes covered come -with a little effort- even close to a religious content which could as well have been from a divinely inspired “poet from the 13th century”. It is the only album truly written “in the key of life” and in my opinion no one, (not even Dylan himself) ever reached this incredible level of mastercraft that really “walks a razor’s edge”. By listening and listening again and again you can witness ‘an artist’ of our times , a unique human being that is able to express a content which is the A to Z of what truly matters in a human life in a perfectly beautiful and skillfully crafted form. Blood on the tracks breaths the air of the essence of human existence, passed on throughout the ages and which will make it definitely into the coming centuries to the status of permanent human heritage. If anything should be send into space, for aliens to be able to understand what’s going on on this planet before they ask for the manager, it should definitely be this record.
