Godspeed You! Black Emperor Slow Riot For New Zero Kanada
It took a couple listens but when I took this in amongst the catalogue of other releases from godspeed, I realized the immediacy of this record and in it's terse short nature,it really stood out as their most accessible yet deepest recording. I absolutely love the interview with the guy who is talking about his speeding ticket court appearance.

Pretty Lights Glowing in the Darkest Night
Perfect and Poignant, released two days late this is the final chapter of pretty lights three ep set. What a great ending to the trilogy. Brooding and dark but also celebratory in it's closing songs. " So much in the dark" serves as the epic end to 2010 as well as a carry over into 2011 and a great song to tide us over until Derek's next LP.

Brand New The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me
This album is a very strange one for me. At times when I listen to it, it flows so fluidly that it almost has a exposition, climax, and denouement like any good story or novel. Most of the time I can only see it as a collection of songs, nothing wrong with that though. Jesses lyrics are some of the most downright depressing and angst ridden of any brand new album and really fit in with the whole bipolar aspect. While no song is happy there are uptempo and danceable songs and then there are some slow burners. Not the sun and limousine being prime examples of the polarity. Musically, this album is the band progressing into darker areas, and i'm overexcited to see how dark daisy's progression will be from this. Lyrically though, I wanna hear another tommy gun.

EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC
Coheed and Cambria Year of the Black Rainbow
This has enough unfamiliar direction it feels like a complete stranger... or a stranger you met in a past life. My gripes at first were as follows: It doesn't have that sweet fucking C&C epic theme song, even though I guess NWFT didn't really have it either. It also doesn't have that rediculously building intro, what it does have is an ambient piece that is supposed to represent the beginning (or end?) of a battle. They lost the quirkiness in the lyrics/ story elements that stayed consistent in their albums, like "goodnight tonight, my love" or "what did I do to deserve all of you". Or where was the closing movements, like the velorium camper and willing wells. (I miss that stuff so much.) I do understand that it's the prequel album but it certainly didn't feel like it belonged in the same universe as the others. To me it still feels like a seperate story not the chain of events that led up to second stage. Yet the more I listen and dwell on this album I realize that this is a band maturing and opening up a new chapter that represents a darker and chaotic side. I believe whatever happens next in the coheed discog. will be more experimental and embracing of the progressive side of their music. I've come to terms to understand that YotBR is a preface to their earlier work as well as a prologue to ventures away from the coheed and cambria story arc to more conceptual scifi and horror stories. They still have to make their own alchemy index imo and I think now that the band story is over they can now really go down the rabbit hole.

A pleasant surprise after the mixed bag that was vicious delicious. The shitty vocals are gone and those who loved the guitar oriented songs like heavywieght will love the metal approach to this album. This effort seems made specifically for dance clubs, with only two radio friendly songs.(Both songs featuring vocalists from Korn and Jane's Addiction.) Infected moved a step back from the mainstream with this release geared more towards their loyal fans. Standouts Sa'eed, Project 100, Legend Of The Black Shawarma, and Can't Stop.

Fuck you Muse, You blantanly rip-off Queen's concepts, Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical ideas, and even steal lyrics from a favorite band of mine Walter Meego. But yet you created a better album then the disappointing black holes. The resistance is actually pleasant to listen to and isn't really boring. Just try and be original for the next album please. I don't want to get phantom of the opera mixed up with muse ever again.
