Devin Townsend Project Deconstruction
This album is the epitome of all things Devin Townsend: it has humor, brutality, melody, and everything else associated with Devy. The guest performances are amazing, and Devy's songwriting is perfection. This is an easy contender for the best album of 2011 and the best album Devin Townsend has ever released.

Enslaved In Times
The first two tracks weed out the trv kvlt kids, and the final three showcase some of the furthest rexperimental boundaries Enslaved have ever pushed. This will likely be seen as even more divisive rthan Vertebrae, but the band have once again released a phenomenal record.

A refreshingly good debut album, Battlecross take the best of thrash and death metal and have created a fun, energizing, yet relentless album. This is a must-listen for any fan of extreme metal.

Devin Townsend Project Contain Us
The first disc consists of great bonus tracks that are similar to one of each of the four DTP
albums, while the second disc is a bunch of demos from each album. There are also a few
silly tracks including what I perceived as Devy's attempt at hardcore punk and a hip-hop
track done by Devin and Deconstruction drummer Dirk Verbeuren.
Devin Townsend Project By A Thread: Live in London 2011
Devin Townsend Project Epicloud
Epicloud is just simply epic. HevyDevy returns with a masterpiece that could easily go down as the best album of 2012. Combining his signature metal elements with new musical theatrics, Devin Townsend has presented us with yet another mindblowing album.

Ivar Bjornson and Einar Selvik Hugsjá
Rather than the pretty even split between Enslaved and Wardruna that was Skuggsja, this second
collaboration from the Norwegian duo is much more akin to the latter band (albeit with a drum kit,
acoustic guitar, and some electric guitar as well).

While no Wardruna clone, Einar Selvik's haunting vocals are still the star of the record. The
world could always use more of his voice, right?

Nokturnal Mortum's second long-length demo proved that they were already ahead of the rest of the NSBM scene in terms of musical and songwriting abilities. Yet another stellar album from Austin Lunn. Part I isn't too different from past black metal material, but still manages to stay fresh. Fast, rthrashy riffs mix with Chuck Billy's excellent mix of harsh and clean vocals to create a rnear-perfect thrash metal album. The return of Gene Hoglan on the drums makes the album even rbetter, his blast beats taking the band to the verge of being death metal. A definite rcontender for the best metal album of 2012.

Wintersun Time I
With this release Jari has exchanged most of the speed, ferocity, and heaviness the first ralbum had for epicness and atmosphere. It should be noted that since this is only the first rhalf of 'Time', there may be much more in store for us next year. With that being said, the ralbum is still great, "Sons of Winter and Stars" being the strongest track. While not what rmost fans were expecting and a slight disappointment, we should wait for 'Time II' before we rgive our full opinion of the album we've been waiting for.

Ihsahn has returned with a an album that is heavily experimental, yet is also an interesting listen. Although the first few tracks on the album stand out far more than the closing tracks, the album is a whole is an impressive effort that stands out more than last year's Eremita.

A great modern deathgrind record that proves that Travis Ryan is one of the best vocalists in the genre. A lot of the record is similar, but that is definitely not a bad thing. While this EP doesn't do much except generate hype for the next album, it's still a fun listen. The two tracks off of Blodsvept sound fantastic and the live tracks are fun. The Pet Shop Boys cover is interesting and pretty humorous, while the demo of "Rivfader" from the first album is a good listen as well.

The Human Abstract Moonlight Sonata
A great take on the classic Beethoven piece, the musicianship is top notch, yet the album suffers from terrible production in the heavy parts. It's a shame the band did not attempt to remedy this problem while making the single. Would be a 4-4.5 if the production was better. However, Movement 3 is still fantastic to listen to.

Xerath II
While creating another enjoyable listen, Xerath have failed to provide much more than what was present on their debut album. Faster, blast-beat laden songs such as "Reform Part III" provide something new, yet the orchestrations and riffs are the same. The vocals are all that has really changed, with variations of Devin Townsend-esque screams and Joe Duplantier-style growls.

2.5 average
AC/DC Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap

Avenged Sevenfold City of Evil
Clocking in at over an hour and ten minutes, this is a hard album to sit through. It should have been condensed to 45 or 50 minutes, which could have been done easily. The musicianship is great, but M. Shadows' vocals just suck horribly.
