Between the Buried and Me The Silent Circus
This was the turning point in my metal career studies. Made me digest the death growl, blast beat, and groove oriented metal in general. I was 17 in 2003, and this shaped everything to come. It also opened up a door that should have probably never been oepend as the whole scene exploded shortly after. not to say I wasn't into classics as a kid (pantera, slayer, metallica, korn, deftones and essentially nu metal between 1995-2001), but this made me understand why I could never really get into death metal gods such as deicide or six feet under. I just didn't understand. This made everything make sense. Prog, hardcore, metal, ambiance. It was one of the most refreshing releases to come out in that era in a long, long time. I learned so much from this album and became a better writer, musician and friend because of this release. It connected me with so many people I had never been friends with and opened a conversation for music each and every time anyone patient enough to go through the headtrip this album still provides.
Bury Your Dead Cover Your Tracks
Being a drummer since I was 11, Mark Castillo changed my life forever with his performance on btbam's TSC. When he returned to the more straight forward and punishing BYD, I found a new home in hxc. BYD's early days were a beautiful thing and the group presented themselves in a much more animated and dynamic demeanor than they had prior and other tough guy acts could not compare with this groove. M. Bruso's themes on this album rubbed me the right way at the right time when this was initially released. Even though some of the songs are from the you-had-me sessions, this was still a better production; Matthew Ellard from btbam's TSC to be exact = )
Less Than Jake Borders and Boundaries
Just like RHCP down there, not one road trip can go by without me having to spin this classic release. Such great hooks, such fine lines, such a good feeling record that no matter what mood you're in, the lyrics, and choruses in this album will make you want to blare the radio, two-step in a wank filled warped tour pit, or go for a 7 mile run like I did for a full year training for a marathon. This album was always by my side.
Meshuggah Nothing
Introduced a new sound to metal that hadn't been previously approached. The 8 strings weren't a joke yet and the production pushed the limits of the common stereo. The sound these guitars developed spawned hundred of imitators, none to capture the essence of this formula. A complete drop from previous releases and a turn for the better in an already impressive and challenging catalogue.
Nine Inch Nails The Fragile
A spectacular effort, a great portfolio, makes you understand later works like the recent scores (TSN, TGWTDT...). Later works did not skim the surface of the depth of this release. The lyrics are so defeated, so torn, so incomplete, and something that I found closure in for a long period in my life. Although sappy and pathetic, this album was a really good friend to me for many years as I was progressing through youth.
Poison the Well You Come Before You
The evolution PTW has showcased since they came out into the hardcore scene has been something quite remarkable. Coming from TFTR, YCBY displayed such lush harmonies and such depth that had not been touched by other acts. This is a sound that has not been replicated. Although the recording could have been polished a bit more, the lyrics, structures, themes, and layers on each track are worth a listen. Def one to sit down for with the book in your hand and memorize line by line. Amazing, articulate and a defining moment in the bands profile.
Red Hot Chili Peppers One Hot Minute
walking into guru-moo?? get serious! this is timeless! Displays Dave Navarro's talent unlike anything else he has touched. This projects RHCP's chemistry that binds them throughout the years, and although later releases can hit the shitter for all I care, every road trip is not complete without at least one spin.
Sepultura Chaos A.D.
Sepultura Morbid Visions
Slayer Reign in Blood
I used to rock this out when i was twelve years old and listen to it in my walkman on my walk up to middle school. we used to pull weeds in the yard to this album. short and furious. doesnt match any of their 90's albums. RIB, SOH, SITA... three ancient classics.
The Acacia Strain The Most Known Unknown
The DVD can stream as a screen saver. One of the self proclaimed angriest bands in the world and are such a delight to watch in the act. Wonderful stuff. The second disc capitalizes on 7 strong years of my life and my interaction with hardcore. Really puts a lid on the culture and energy that attracted me to all this nonsense in the first place.
The Dillinger Escape Plan Irony Is a Dead Scene
Mike Patton? Dillinger? No question! What a gift this was. It spawned Radiation 4 which was an interesting approach to the whole thing, but what a treat this listen turned out to be. How 3 songs and a cover could just completely shift the dynamics of a band's catalogue. It's safe to say TDEP never bounced back from this, and went further down the spiral to produce and mix even more complex and challenging releases.

4.5 superb
7 Angels 7 Plagues Jhazmyne's Lullaby
spawned the notorious misery signals! Aside from that the production was quite different than anything that has come out in the past decade, or EVER for that matter. A solid listen, justifies being into this whole thing for the longest time anyway....
Angel Du$t Rock The Fuck On Forever
Converge Petitioning the Empty Sky
how can you beat this punishing gem of a classic? between all their splits and lp's, I cannot get enough of their attitude. one brilliant release after another across the entire catalogue.
Deftones Diamond Eyes
what a comeback after the cheeseball SNW. So sorry for Chi to have missed one of the strongest moments in the bands history.
Every Time I Die Hot Damn!
Gorillaz Humanz
KEN mode Loved
Monuments (UK) Gnosis
Poison the Well Demo Record
Radiohead OK Computer
some of the strongest musicianship is found in the first several tracks of this album and I always found it stunning that the singles that were picked off this album, in my opinion, were the best songs on the album, which is a very rare occasion.
The Dillinger Escape Plan Calculating Infinity
brilliantly produced mint release from start to finish.
Turnstile Nonstop Feeling
Uneven Structure Februus
woah daddy... I still do not understand the scope of this release and the 40+ minutes of ambience found on the second disc of this album. A great showcase of the expansion of metal that occurred in 2011 and went into the second decade of the century. But as a package, from the cover, to the djent, to the whatever else you can find here, it sits shoulder to shoulder with Amia Venera's epic release in 2010 and builds on the progress that was, in my opinion, evolving into a new scene that was influenced from the european countries.

Code Orange Forever
Comeback Kid Outsider
Court Order Court Order
The band delivers on all fronts on their new album. While the DNA here is very much aggressive metal, there's enough intricacies and variations to make the new album a thought provoking listen. As Court Order explores new elements and deliver wild melodic arrangements on seven very unique and refreshing tracks, they remain so convincingly heavy and slowly immerse themselves in the community they grew up in.

^^ lol band has been terrible consistently, however I do feel they produced this way better than the past 3 albums and they finally learned how to write reasonable breakdowns and grooves. finally the vocals sound human rather than their gargles attempt to avoid any comprehension with squeals and blurts. it's also good for what they're trying to accomplish, where the last several albums weren't even good at being shit.

it's just meh and always was meh and there wasnt anything good that i was exposed to when i was in 4th grade besides what was on tv. no heavy internet use back then and no quick speeds to discover music like i do now. just putting up with what i was fed on tv and magazines.

just continuously smearing their painful attempts to regain what was a blast from a debut, to rehashing concepts that never had any potential of lasting replay value to ever begin with.
