NOFX The Decline |
In a world in which punk music generally devolves into three or so chords, NOFX really shines through on this song. The bass is impeccable, providing anything from complex bass lines (surprising for the genre) to mellow reggae lines, the guitars are great throughout providing amounts of energy that may make you want to go out and start moshing inside of your bedroom, the drums are steady and keep the beat while throwing in some impressive fills, and hell, even a trombone (which I'm a sucker for) kicks in at just the right time to provide an epic feel. The 18 minute epic piece seems to go by just as fast as an average 2 minute punk song. That being said, you will want to listen to it again and again unlike a certain other band's "punk ballad masterpiece." *cough Green Day cough* |

Honestly, this album changed my life. Not because of some big political statement, but because it was the first metal album i ever bought by myself, and it opened my world to what is now one of my favorite styles of music. Now, my musical tastes have matured a lot, but i still find that this album is extremely enjoyable. The melodies and vocals are ridiculously catchy, the drumming is great, the guitars and bass leave some to desire, but they get the job done. Anyway, I truly believe that if I didn't get this album, I would have probably become a pathetic, wasteful wigger instead of the person I am now. |

Behold... The Arctopus Nano-Nucleonic Cyborg Summoning EP |
I know I'm going to get some hate for this, but i found Behold... The Arctopus's Nano-Nucleonic Cyborg Summoning overbearingly mediocre. Sure, the musicianship is nothing short of amazing, with both the guitarist and the...Warr guitar player, I don't know what you would call his position, pulling off impressive and technical solos and riffs. However, it seems like they put too much effort in being technical, and not enough effort into writing good music. Overall it sounds very cluttered and chaotic at points, and definitely takes away from the EP's feel. It's fun, and it's impressive, but nothing more than that. |
