5.0 classic
A Tribe Called Quest The Low End Theory
Alexisonfire Watch Out!
One of the finest post-hardcore albums of all time. The passion put into it makes it worth a five, but it's those little moments, like the beginning of "Sharks and Danger" or the almost ambient parts in "Happiness by the Kilowatt". It has this subtle energy, despite the screaming and raging guitars (which are incidentally excellent). It just feels...alive.
At the Drive-In Relationship of Command
A tour-de-force of rock music. I don't care what Cedric Bixler-Zavala is saying, I don't care if the guitars are rather sloppy, or that the production isn't perfect. Those things are what makes this album hit me so hard; the fact that it's just rock in it's purest form. It makes a person move and yell and let all that shit that suburban life (which I'm assuming most of it's listeners experience) puts into you get released.
Bon Iver For Emma, Forever Ago
If this album doesn't pull at your heartstrings...nothing will.

Elliott Smith Either/Or

Fleet Foxes Helplessness Blues
Such a beautifully constructed, intelligent, poignant album. It just feels instantly familiar, almost as if they are singing directly to me. Amazing. It grows on you as well.. "Montezuma" is not only fantastic, in my mind, it is career-defining.

Alexisonfire Alexisonfire
Alexisonfire Crisis
A more forceful effort than "Watch Out!". This has a singular purpose, to represent anger, but in different, interesting formats, from the brooding of "You Burn First" to the vitriol of "We Are The End".

This is what music is about. Experimentation, passion and talent. Absolutely brilliant album by Monae, and she does what only the greats do; (Michael Jackson, Prince, Madonna, David Bowie, etc) she crosses over into all sorts of different styles while making it unique and special.
So close to being a classic. If not for that Of Montreal track...

A Tribe Called Quest People's Instinctive Travels & The Paths of Rhythm
Alexi Murdoch Time Without Consequence
Alexisonfire Old Crows / Young Cardinals
It's easy to go on about how they changed their style, and how they are a shadow of what they used to be, or how George sounds awful, or whatever. The fact of the matter is, these are a great collection of rock songs, with some of their catchiest and most accessible material to date. George may not sound great, but you can't scream like that for 8 years and expect to have a great voice can you? So stop hating it for what it isn't and start embracing it for what it is.

It's formulaic, forced, unintelligent and uninteresting. With the exception of a couple of tracks, ("All Black Everything", "I'm Beamin") this is a typical radio hip-hop album. For someone who claims to be hip-hop's saviour, you have to do better.

The most GENERIC album I have ever heard in my entire life. It's like they took all the most mediocre parts from all the most mediocre bands in the genre, to make some kind of mediocre super-being. Kinda like Doomsday in the Superman comics...only this will bore the public to death instead of mauling them. Ugh..
