A Textbook Tragedy Intimidator
A Textbook Tragedy Rain City State of Mind - EP
Talent at it's rawest, this young band show incredible promise and have improved even moreso with this fine EP. Intimidator was a fantastic album but this takes things to new heights - more technical in terms of riffs, sharper production, a tighter sound and some very interesting use of instrumentation and vocals to achieve an exceptionally original sound. Also formidable live, this band deserve as much positive acclaim as humanely possible, for they truly deserve it.

Cry For Silence The Glorious Dead
A shockingly brilliant debut showcasing a true mix of the different subgenres that metal has to offer. Cry For Silence certainly are very apt at creating fresh, technical metal which retains an epic flair to it. The guitarists utilize 7 strings in a frightening sense, incorporating Architects like precision riffing with Unearth-esque brutality. Epic solos are in abundance, pulled off with apt skill and taste. In terms of rhythm, the drumming is solid and varied where it needs to be. Check out the sporadic drum fill that opens Cold Unholy Shores for a taste of this drummer's creativity. The bass certainly isn't left in the dark either - on the title track, it shines wonderfully during a beautiful melodic break, another technique these guys have all but mastered off to a tee. The vocals may be the hurdle for some - a unique vocalist is certainly what CfS possess. He employs great range, includes screams and pulls off some fairly good clean singing. Overall, as a package, the band undeniably take the cake. Imagine a mix of old Mendeed, Architects and Unearth with a fresh injection of technicality and you'll get a rough idea of what you're in for. Masterful melodic metal from an act that is sure to make waves in the future, Cry For Silence's debut is a fantastic effort and well worth a listen if you like your metal melodic and technical.

This is some pretty intense experimental grindcore/death metal crossover. The vocals are manic and incorporate a number of different styles, from high shrieks, low growls and even the odd pig squeal. As far as instrumentation goes, the band are on top of their game; the guitars are insane both rhythmically and in terms of riff construction, and the drums are unrelenting as well as being incredibly complex. A DEP influence is clearly present but it is more than that - death metal elements are aplenty; I guess it could even be described as experimental deathgrind. Song lengths are pretty long on average for this genre. But all in all, this is a breath of fresh air, well worth looking into if you're a fan of fast, technical grindcore (akin to old DEP) and maybe The Boy Will Drown.

Incredible improvement, I was sure these guys definitely had it in them to improve shedloads. Songs are technical, tastefully written and varied and the vocals have become much more refined and interesting. Solos are great, riffs are cool and in general, the new sound is awesome.

Sylosis The Supreme Oppressor
A solid debut album from the UK melodic metal band. Incorporating a sound that almost infuses Killswitch Engage and Shadows Fall, the band successfully create a short yet impressive album that should please many metalheads. Solos are certainly executed well and there is plenty of riffage to enjoy, as well as a pleasant and well placed instrumental track. The only bad thing would be the length of the album, coming in at a very short 27 minutes.
