The bulk of the rating goes to one song. I think you know which one I'm talking about. Yes, it's The River Dragon Has Come. The song is monstrous. The solo is majestic. The rest album is good, no doubt about that. I particularly enjoy the first 3 songs a lot.

After the disappointing Souls to Deny, I thought, this is it. Yet another band trying to launch a comeback of sorts that is doomed to failure. Thankfully, this album proves me dead wrong. When I first heard it in my friend's metal shop, the first thought that came to mind was, "Heh, the production sounds kinda crappy and Frank Mullen odd." But I relented after reading reviews praising it. Boy, was I happy. And in pain, too. The first song, Abomination Reborn, made me headbang so hard I nearly banged my head on the wall. Then came Redemption (which is arguably their best song since the godly Funeral Inception) and the absolutely wicked Bind Torture Kill. Each song has its own sound and feel. Frank Mullen sounds just as menacing but it is Mike Smith that steals the show. The drums may be too upfront at times but it shows how much he's improved. Thunderous fills and the double bass make my body quiver. An excellent album from a band I thought I would never hear again.

Much like Testament's Low, this album is criminally underrated. Sure, the production on this should've been better because what we have here, is some top quality thrash. Plus, the muddy sound tarnishes what is, to me, Paul Bostaph's best Slayer performance. The dude's a machine! Check out the intro to Killing Fields. Tell me that's sloppy and I'll hit you with a pink shovel. One of my favourites is Fictional Reality. It has awesome riff and one of the coolest Slayer solo section. And, of coure, Dittohead, which is one of the fastest Slayer songs you'll ever hear. It's an all-out thrasher. The title track also deserves attention for its rather creepy lyrics and overall sound. Slayer have a gift for creating some of the best opening songs but their closing songs are no exception. Mind Control isn't Raining Blood, that's for sure, but what it lacks in epic grandeur, it makes it up with speed. Blistering fast and Bostaph really making an impact here. It's sad that people tend to overlook this but for those who don't, they'll have a fun time.

Trippy. Weird. Colourful. These are some the words that come to mind when you're listening to this. The music is sometimes circus-like, sometimes hard rock, but always unique. This is, however, not my cup of tea. I like the music a lot; it's not showy for the sake of showy. The vocals are nice and she really has a nice tone to it but when she starts shrieking and screaming that's when I cover my ears. I'm sorry but women vocalists who employ the shouty-shriek thing makes me wish (sometimes) I was listening to Cradle of Filth's Dani Filth instead. The best songs are definitely the sombre-sounding and dulcet-tinged Lifeless and the song that embodies the band perfectly, Push Button. It took me awhile to get used to the band's sound. I expected to be blown away but instead I was given a gentle tap on the head.

Anthrax Persistence of Time
I wanted to like this album very much after reading numerous reviews praising its goodness. I feel cheated. First off, some of the songs are too long which leads to boredom since Anthrax aren't that good at protracting (boring) ideas. Secondly, the riffs are mediocre. Some of it are okay while the rest is easily forgettable. But it is the vocals that make me cringe as though I had sucked a huge lemon. Joey Belladonna sucks, period. Devoid of any real passion or emotion, I proclaim him as the second worst thrash metal vocalist after Dave Mustaine. Can you say, "Darn, I wish they hired a better singer"?
Arch Enemy Doomsday Machine
Arch Enemy Wages of Sin

Behemoth Demigod
Some have compared them to Nile. There are definitely moments where you go, I think I’ve heard that before. Behemoth is a band with so much potential but in their valiant efforts to be very “death metal,” they neglect to create memorable songs. But to be fair, the blame squarely rests on mainman, Nergal. His vocal delivery is both pompous and funnily enough, not that brutal. The clarity of the production makes it sound as though there are three Nergals. Which suffice it to say, is just plain annoying. Just imagine this, a Nergal to your left, a Nergal to your right and a Nergal right in front of you. Not nice at all. And the solos? Let’s just say that the band needs someone who can unleash them with more force because they’re forgettable. Towards Babylon, Xul and Slaves Shall Serve are brutal songs that will pummel your head in and then you’re hankering for some Nile. The most disappointing song has to be The Reign Ov Shemsu-Hor. It starts off with tribal beats while the main riff is quite good. At slightly over 8 minutes you’d think that this is going to epic. It doesn’t. Not even near. It’s overwrought, bloated and mismatched. Not even the liberal usage of the kvlt word Ov can help this album. What a shame.

Naglfar Sheol
Heavily influenced by Dissection, the Naglfar boys have come up with a not-quite-there yet album. Sure, it has the prerequisite melodies and spite-filled vocals together with the "I hate you and your dog and here's my dagger I'm going to slice you in the name of Satan" lyrics. The album is incoherent and meandering and the far too clean production ruins what could've been an awesome album.
