Ion Dissonance Solace |
Ion Dissonance are back and as brutal as ever, sorta. Solace is a step in the wrong direction, towards trying to be accessible. Songs such as 'O.A.S.D.' and "Shut Up, I'm Trying to Worry' are some of the best on this album but pale in comparison to their debut album. Many of the same pieces are still in place, offering a very similar experience to Breathing is Irrelevant. Technically proficient, chaotic, heavy and all around crazy Solace rarely lets anybody listening to take a breather. The final track, 'A Prelude of Things Worse to Come' is an eleven minute track that is oddly enough, at a medium tempo and contains a large amount of ambience (it has got 'Jane Doe' written all over it). Only an average release, Solace makes few attempts to differ from ID's previous album and the result is what sounds like watered down b-sides from Breathing is Irrelevant. Many songs sound so alike that repeated listens might not help you tell them apart. Overall, not the most satisfying listen, fans of Breathing is Irrelevant should use caution if you decide to pick this up. |
