Dream Theater Metropolis Part 2: Scenes From a Memory
The sound of a ticking clock opens up the album, followed by the voice of a hypnotherapist talking to the mian charater of this epic masterpiece as he slowly drifts into sleep. In this form of thereapy called "regression," nicholas encounters a young gril named victoria of whom he finds extremely familiar. Throughout the rest of the album, nichloas tries to solve the mystery of victoria, whom he believes to be his past life in a story of murder, romance, and mystery. Other than the epic home, which is my fav DT song of all time and a few other choice cuts, none of the songs actually stand out as a whole. What makes this album so awesome is the plot, and how each track basically combines as one. This album can't be missed.

Less cohesive than colors....more impressive levels of technicality displayed....honky-tonk piano lines in Fossil
Genera...Swim to the Moon is fucking amazing...apparently I should've saved my soundoff. Not really up to writing it
over but this album is definitely worth the hype if you're a BTBAM fan like myself. Has the potential to become one
of, if not their strongest release.

Children Of Bodom Follow the Reaper
Bodom's third album is where their signature style really shows. It's cold and evil sounding, as quite possibly bodom's best instrumentally. Just listen to Kissing the Shadows, six solos rage through the last minute and a half of the song, leaving the listener in awe. I feel that this is Laiho's best vocal performance as well, his screams are very black metal-ish on this release. Janne proves his skills with adding atmopshere to every song and soloing almost faster than the guitars. I enjoy HCDR a little more, but this is definately a classic that cannot be missed by any metal head.

Disillusion Back To Times Of Splendor
Though unfortunately quite unknown, the german three-piece band Disillusion have created some of the most emotionally moving, yet punishingly heavy music ever made. The title track, and "The Sleep of Restless Hours" are both soooo epic, both almost moved me to tears, and i'm not an emotinal guy. And The Mirror Cracks is just brutal, i ****ing love it, other than the two epics, its definately my favorite. Fall and Alone I stand in Fires are pretty similar, brutal but with more melody, and not quite as heavy as the opener. Fall doesnt have any harsh vocals either i believe. And then we have A Day by the Lake, which is just beautiful. The instrumentation is simpler than the other songs, but really effective and epic sounding, even though its the shortest song on the album. It's a shame so little have heard of this masterpiece, much more deserve to hear an album of this stature.

A Voice Like Rhetoric Ethos
This is an excellent post-hardcore/mathcore record, drawing huge influence from giants At The Drive-In and even The Fall of Troy. With technical guitar and bass playing, tasteful drumming, and hooky vocal lines, A Voice For Rhetoric's "Ethos" is a must-listen for anyone into post-hardcore or technical punk. Definitely will make my top 20 of 2009 at the end of the year.

Children Of Bodom Hatebreeder
Children of Bodom can't and won't ever dissapoint. Hatebreeder is Bodom's second album, and my third favrotie of theirs personally. The mixing of power and black metal is an amazing mix, espeically on tracks like Warheart and Hatebreeder. However, i'd have to say that the last two tracks are the best here. Children of Bodom (the song) is my favorite bodom song ever, and possibly my favorite song of all time. The lead is increbile, the chorus is catchy, the drumming kicks ass, it;s just awesome. Downfall is almost as good, and is very keyboard oriented with an epic feel. This album cannot be missed by any metalhead.

Dream Theater Train of Thought
Dream Theater Black Clouds and Silver Linings
I confess to being a bit of a Dream Theater fanboy (I have been wearing the same Dream Theater hat pretty much
every day since August) but I can admit that they've been on a steady decline since 6DOIT. Systematic Chaos
especially was a pretty big letdown. However, after giving this multiple listens, I was very pleasantly surprised. If you
ignore the lyrics (which never have been that great anyway) this is easily a much better album than Systematic Chaos,
Octavarium, perhaps even Train of Thought. Though at times the music may feel shallow and emotionless, for the
most part this is a spectacular return to form for Dream Theater. I've even grown to quite like the single, A Rite of
Passage, which I first passed off as boring and uninspired. Especially notable are the clean interlude and majestic
chorus midway through "A Nightmare to Remember," the splendidly emotional guitar solo that closes "The Best of
Times," and just about all 19 minutes of "The Count of Tuscany." "The Shattered Fortress" also manages to close out
the AA suite in top form, with an amalgamation of riffs and themes used throughout the other four tracks. I applaud
Dream Theater for releasing this album. An easy 4/5.

Bodom is my favorite overall band, and they definately did not hold back with their fourth release, which happens to be
my favorite (FTR is a close second) Muchy like Clayman is to In Flames, and Natural Born Chaos is to Soilwork, this is
bodom's transitional album. Gone are the atmospheric and cold, melodic riffing (for the most part) and in come a much
heavier overall sound. The keyboards take a much more 70's sounding sound in this album (listen to triple corpse
hammerblow and the chorus to bodom beach terror) but manage to fit in well and not make this sound like a 30 year
old album. Alexi's vocals are a little weaker here than the other albums, but it overall doesn't affect the outcome of the
abum. Songs like needled 24/7 and lil bloodred riding hood are composed of amazing riffs full of melody, while you're
better off dead and the title track focus more on brutality, and contain some of bodom's cheesiest lyrics. Sixpounder is
bodom's crunchiest and thashiest song ever, and another treat while Angels don't Kill is Bodom's "ballad" and probably
their most evil sonding song. Chokehold features some of bodom's best indstrumentation ever, just listen to that
keyboard solo! And bodom beach terror and triple corpse hammerblow feature some awesome keyboarding and are
more bass driven than the other songs. If you're looking for bodom's thrashier album, look no further!

Incubus Monuments and Melodies
Though the lack of any pre-Make Yourself material is somewhat disappointing, Monuments and Melodies does an excellent job of summarizing Incubus' past 10 years as a band, from their breakout album Make Yourself, to their most recent Light Grenades. The first cd consists of the big singles from their past four albums, and are rightfully chosen. Also featured are two new songs, "Black Heart Inertia," and "Midnight Swim," both of which are up amongst the top quality songs of their past two albums. Disc two consists of rarities and b-sides, including the fan-favorite "Pantomime." A Cover of Prince's "Let's Go Crazy" is also included, as well as an interesting and very well-done acoustic rendition of their song "A Certain Shade of Green" off of their sophomore effort, S.C.I.E.N.C.E. Though this is not an essential buy for long-time Incubus fans, Monuments and Melodies would be a great place to start for those new and unfamiliar with the band.
