Boards of Canada Music Has the Right to Children
Boards of Canada Geogaddi
At first a little awkward, as the follow up to the brilliant Music Has The Right to Children a lot was riding high on this for me. Geogaddi is a dark, cryptic affair, one that reveals itself over many listens. Dig a little deeper then the surface, and you'll scratch a goldmine of potential symbolism, told through samples and disturbing backmasked messages, song titles with a seemingly calculated relationship to each other, and an album cover which can be dissected through interpretation into something eerie in its beauty. Geogaddi is a haunting IDM masterpiece.

KMFDM Nihil
Everything promising which KMFDM had been threatening on their previous releases certainly came to a head with Nihil, with a stronger emphasis on harder edged metal then the EBM of old (though that side is still very prominent) the album has a fast paced punk/thrash influence over its gothic electronics which makes it feel a little bit like Skinny Puppy meets Anthrax at times. Nihil is a whirlwind that doesn't let up for it's entire duration, and is one of the greatest industrial albums of its era.

The only minor flaw I can point out here is that some of the wavering frequencies in the opening section of the title track are distracting, otherwise this is a collection of some of the most sublimely constructed and beautiful music i've ever heard. The musicianship is playful and Flora Purim's guest vocals are very pretty, featuring modern jazz standard Spain alongside several other worthwhile tracks (the minimalist composition Children's Song here my personal underrated favourite) Light As A Feather is nothing short of superb.

A quintessential 80's pop album, from a bold female new wave duo from Scotland. With a hint of shoegazery, and gothic undertones the music is energectic, dark and beautiful all at once. Current 93 Crowleymass
Produced by Icelandic musician Hilmar Om Hilmarsson, Crowleymass is one of the most unusual entries in the Current 93 discography as a short EP with a gothic, new wave dance feel that is quite at odds with the rest of their discography. David Tibet almost raps here, and considering the lyrical content seems geared towards satanist themes its pretty funny. Something of a cult classic, worth checking out.
Current 93 Soft Black Stars
David Tibet and piano for almost its entirety, save the last track which brings the drones. Morose, minimalist compositions and wonderfully illustrated lyrical content. Another worthy C93 release.
Current 93 Cats Drunk on Copper
Current 93 Black Ships Heat the Dancefloor
A one off remix of a few tracks from Current 93's Black Ships Are The Sky by J.G. Thirlwell and Matmos. An awful lot of fun, and proof of the strange kind of humour David Tibet is capable of for all the claims of pretentiousness from his detractors.

KMFDM Angst
KMFDM Naïve
The start of KMFDM's classic period which lasts roughly up until around Symbols. The earlier stylistic experiments and EBM origins of the band are focused into a collection of much more cohesive arrangements, Naive based primarily around repetitive industrial-rock loops spiced with danceable EBM goodness, the occasional female backing vocals, and lyrics dwelling in a cheesy, tongue-in-cheek nihilism. Sure, it's not meant to be taken all that seriously but this good party music for an industrial fan and a very solid release from the early 90's wave of groups who came out of the genre.

Try and get the out-of-print edition without the heavily cut Liebeslied, which illegally sampled Carl Orff's O Fortuna and had its lyrics retooled into english.

Foetus Deaf
Erratic, experimental synthpop goodness from industrial pioneer J.G. Thirlwell. Deaf sits somewhere between the 60's moog experiments of Jean Jacques Perrey (check out Perrey-Kingsley's The In Sound From Way Out! if you haven't had the pleasure yet) and the eclectic playfulness of GodWeenSatan: The Oneness era Ween. J.G. would later go on to release seminal industrial works through the Foetus project such as Hole (1984), Nail (1985) and what I would consider his masterpiece, Thaw (1988) but concerning Deaf, his work would never be quite the same again.

The new album from The Axl Rose & Friends band.
It's strongest and weakest points are it's overproduction, there are lots of nuances of sound esp. through headphones but it's constant layering and drowning in effects could be considered a bit much. Cheap, airy distortion and vocals can be somewhat offputting, but despite that what is on offer is a surprisingly varied mix of music that edges from hints of the classic gunners rock of old to your standard piano ballads and an industrial-metal edge to some of the tracks.
The sum of it's parts are probably better then the songs as a whole, but during the more impressive sections I am almost tempted to say the wait has been worth it.

The Boyd Rice Experience Hatesville!
Let's Hear It For Violence Towards Women is possibly one of most misanthropic, disturbing concoctions i've ever heard. The rest of the album veers back and forth between bizarre pop music with tongue in cheek black humour, spoken word monologues from Boyd and stuff that can be described only as complete **** (Low Blood Sugar, i'm looking at you). Entertaining, but pretty bad.
The Mentors Up The Dose
The Prodigy Invaders Must Die
In many ways a throwback to the vital, early days of Experience and Music For The Jilted Generation fused with everything they've done since, bolstered with a spanky modern production that makes every song vibrant and bursting with so much energy it is difficult to not get caught up in the proceedings.
However, many of these songs come off merely as quirky club filler, which can make or break the album depending on your tastes. It's almost all repetitive synths and Liam chasing the big beat (breaks are back!), sometimes working together in a moment of pure brilliance but in others gratingly annoying. The vocal samples often sound tacked on as an afterthought, with the exception of the jagged reggae loop of Thunder there is very little that seems quite as fitting as in the early days. I would say some of these parts are unnecessary, and would be better served as instrumentals. But that is just me.
I must praise the jazzy Stand-Up as being absolutely fucking brilliant, and a remarkably different track for The Prodigy. Overall this album has its moments, it's highs are very high but it's lows unfortunately drag it down a lot.
