Converge Jane Doe
Intense, emotional, aggresive, disharmonic, melodic, spheric, melancholic, angry... This does not seem like the type of thing I'd love. But guess what? Upon joining Sputnikmusic, I noticed almost immediately that this album was held in very high regards. I ****ing knocked this one kids face in once.
This album is pretty much like knocking face in for 45 minutes, plus breakdowns. I did not at all expect to like Jane Doe, but to be truthful, this kicks BUTT. That's right, BUTT. Jane Doe is sort of like the school bully that brutally beats you up every day and steals your lunch money, but over time becomes your best friend. |

The capacity of human intelligence seems to limit the capabilities to expand upon any possible creative aptitudes. Indeed, if one cannot even notice the facets that the ingenuities around him are comprised of, how can he be expected to fashion a beast of his own? This inveterate sense of constraint is a great blow to the veracity of mankind’s abilities. It restrains us and holds our minds to the ground below, averting any possibility of rising above ourselves to something greater; something not fathomed by the conventional mind. This concept of seeking to go beyond one’s self, known as “transcendence”, is essentially a gateway to unlocking pieces of ourselves that can lead to some of the most elaborate and significant creations of our world. For many, this quest to transcend and form creations that were once considered unthinkable and overwhelming consumes life. Certainly it is rare to find such people, but when they are found, creative barriers are destroyed.

Thrice Vheissu
Let the fans of Thrice's older material be warned: this isn't exactly the Thrice you know and love. The hardcore moments that fans have come to expect are still present, but not as prevalent as they once were. Thrice has obviously decided to branch out and experiment with a new, somewhat softer, style. When I say "newer" sound, I don't mean "bad." When some bands go in a new direction or use a new style on a record, the results can be disastrous. With Thrice, it was the complete opposite. Experimentation with new sounds and instruments, such as synthesizers and a Rhodes piano, has resulted in an album that stands right up there next to The Illusion of Safety and The Artist In the Ambulance.
Fans of the crazy, somewhat difficult riffs of The Illusion of Safety and The Artist in the Ambulance will be slightly disappointed here. Thrice have toned down the emphasis on riffs, and put more time into the other aspects of the music, most notably the vocals. Dustin Kensrue has always been an exceptionally talented and capable vocalist, but on Vheissu, it is obvious that he spent time practicing and working on his voice. Dustin's voice is clear and easy to understand, and the lyrics are better than ever. Overall, Vheissu is a fantastic listen. |

Bruce Springsteen Born To Run
Bruce Springsteen’s third album, Born to Run, has stood the test of time and is now considered a classic album, and it’s easy to see why. This album rocketed Springsteen and his E-Street Band to stardom with its bona-fide rock sound, propelled by Springsteen and Steve Van Zandt’s guitars, Roy Bittan’s piano, Clarence Clemons’ saxophone, and Max Weinberg’s drums. This album takes you on a wild ride through the highs and lows of life. From the inspiring Thunder Road to the mellow Meeting Across the River, Springsteen managed to craft a true masterpiece. Some of the many highlights include Clarence Clemons’ sax solo in Jungleland, Roy Bittan’s piano in Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out, and the epic Backstreets intro. The vocals and instruments are nigh-perfect, and it’s no wonder that this album still remains just as popular as the day it was released 31 years ago. Bruce Springsteen’s Born to Run is a classic, through and through.

Coheed and Cambria Live at the Starland Ballroom (DVD+CD)
Coheed and Cambria The Last Supper: Live At Hammerstein Ballroom
The perfect sendoff for Mic and Josh. Claudio's singing, the band's instrumentation, and the sound and video quality are all top notch. The crowd, for the most part, is great, except during "Wake Up" where some stupid retards decide to yell "I love you!!" a bunch of times. The interviews with Claudio and the crowd outside the venue are more of a hindrance than a help, as they are interspersed throughout the performance. Also the interviews with Claudio only amount to about three minutes total, so they're kind of pointless. A bit of misleading advertising aside, the performance is fantastic. I would have liked to have seen a few more songs from Second Stage Turbine Blade, like "33" or "Time Consumer."

I don't get the claims that this is 'more melodic' or 'softer' for Converge. People need to get over the fact that this isn't Jane Doe. You Fail Me has one of the best atmospheres I've ever heard; it's dark and gloomy as hell, the production is crushing and sludgy, and Bannon's distorted vocals sound fucking great. It's underappreciated. Whatever.
Converge Axe To Fall
So what do I have to do to get you to bump this? Should I post a stupid meme? Should I post copypasta? Or should I just say this: Axe To Fall is most likely the album of the year. If you trust anyone on this site, you should trust me. Have I ever steered you wrong before? Seriously, no matter what kingsoby will inevitably say, this is worth the 5 hours or so of hype it's had.

Cursive Domestica
Cursive Mama, I'm Swollen
This album is really really good. I've always had a weird attitude towards Cursive because for so long all I listened to was Domestica that I couldn't get used to the idea of a Cursive album that wasn't conceptual. Even after I listened to, and enjoyed, their other albums, the idea for some reason still didn't sit well with me - the idea of a Cursive album of just songs. Anyway, the point I guess is that they're really good no matter whether they write a concept album or a regular album. I just needed to fill up some space. Great, great album; I didn't expect it to be this good.

Ridiculously good. Yeah everyone has heard "Tiny Dancer" but don't pass up on any of the other songs on here; not one of them is bad. "Tiny Dancer" is of course the perfect pop song, "Levon" is Elton's best, the title track and "Indian Sunset" are incredibly dark (a nice change from Elton's norm), and "Goodbye" is just plain sad. This is one of a few perfect albums that came out in the 70s, right up there with Born to Run and Blood on the Tracks.

I cannot express how good this is in my own words, so allow me to quote rattlehead42147, who hit the nail on the head:
"seriously every ****ing fagety *** band that released a "The "insert color here" album" is so ****ing gay its unbelievable. Well maybe not Baroness. But Metallica and the Beatles never even intended their albums to be called "the white album" or the "the black album" they were just self titled releases.
**** off, "blue album."

So Maroon 5 actually managed to put out an album that's gayer than Songs About Jane. That's not a bad thing though. It Won't Be Soon Before Long is an incredibly catchy and slightly funky album. Maroon 5 basically abandoned the Rock sensibilities that they used to have and crossed the border into Pop. Levine's vocals are awesome and the band know how to perfectly complement his voice and the mood of the songs.

The overall concept of My Chemical Romance's The Black Parade isn't too good, but this is not reflected in the songs themselves. The band progressed nicely from their last effort, borrowing influence from arena rock bands of old. Though a bit unimpressive live, Gerard Way's voice is a pleasure to listen to on record, even more so than on Three Cheers... Overall, quite the good album from My Chemical Romance, surprising as it is.

They might as well just change their name to The Hayley Williams Band. The spunky teenager completely steals the spotlight away from the other band members, which surprisingly turns out to be a very good thing. Her singing is fantastic, sounding more polished and controlled than it did on the band's debut album. The rest of the band progressed as well, providing a solid rhythm section that perfectly complements the vocals. But let's be honest: It's Hayley's world, and we're all just living in it.

I'm not quite sure about this album. It's definitely not my favorite album of the year; in fact, it probably wouldn't even crack my top 20 as of right now. But I can't deny that there is something magical here, because I've barely been able to listen to anything else for the past few days. But even though I like it more each time I listen to it, I still can't bring myself to raise my rating. I feel like this shouldn't be such a confusing album, but it is. Oh well, we'll see what happens.
