5.0 classic
Car Seat Headrest Twin Fantasy (Face to Face)
every once in a while something reminds me of this album and then it is all i'm capable of listening to for weeks
Ethel Cain Preacher's Daughter
i'll be honest, if i didn't see a lot of hype around this album which summarized its storyline, i don't think i would have gotten it through just reading the lyrics. there are also many songs which, knowing it's a story album, seem to repeat the same beat. that being said, i love ethel cain, and i didn't mind two songs having similar theming if it meant i got more of her music.rfave song-- strangers
Have a Nice Life Deathconsciousness
Mitski bury me at makeout creek

4.5 superb
Black Country, New Road Ants From Up There
Bright Eyes I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning
in high school i was so obsessed with lua and i'm so mad it's taken me this long to listen to the whole album-- so good. connor oberst's vocals are a perfect fit here, and the album is simultaneously incredibly cohesive but goes through a range of various emotions and sounds beautifully. so good, mwah.

Modest Mouse This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About
Mount Eerie A Crow Looked At Me
i want to listen to this in full again before i rate it but i don't think i can emotionally take that. sobbing from start to finish. spotify please stop trying to play real death every time my playlist ends and goes to radio. amazing.
My Bloody Valentine Loveless
Phoebe Bridgers Punisher
this album has sunk its claws into me in the last year and has not let go. it makes me feel like i'm submerged in a beautiful world, and then i'm sent screaming out of it on 'i know the end'.
Quadeca I Didn't Mean to Haunt You
Ride Going Blank Again
Sophie Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides
Taylor Swift Folklore
Yo La Tengo I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One

4.0 excellent
Animal Collective Merriweather Post Pavilion
Arlo Parks Collapsed in Sunbeams
this has been a long time coming-- in 2020 i heard green eyes on the radio and have had a
note in my phone that said "green eyes - arlo parks" for two years now. the conclusion i
have come to after listening to this whole album is that for two years ive been missing out,
i should've listened to this much sooner. wild that this is a debut, i can't wait for more
from her. there were some parts which felt a bit repetitive, like a few songs that felt very
similar (hurt and hope, although great songs on their own and very individual, are an
example). that was completely mitigated by the fact that there were multiple times listening
to this album that i got chills-- parks' beautiful vocals and intricate songwriting were
very affecting. really amazing album!!

Panic! at the Disco Pretty. Odd.
Phoebe Bridgers Stranger in the Alps
Stranger in the Alps is amazing, and I love it so much, but at times it can feel a bit bloated (Georgia and Chelsea took a long time to grow on me, for example). Smoke Signals is maybe my favorite song of all time, though, so there's that.

Bright Eyes Digital Ash in a Digital Urn
i love a lot of songs on this album but i think bright eyes' experimentation with more electronic sounds sometimes doesn't always work
Car Seat Headrest Making a Door Less Open
Dorian Electra Flamboyant
Elliott Fullam What's Wrong
Ethel Cain Inbred
Fall Out Boy Take This to Your Grave
Gang of Youths Angel in Realtime
this is a hard album to rate. the lyrics were very impactful and did make me tear up a few different times, but the instrumentation felt really theatrical at times (by which i mean some songs felt like they would have fit perfectly into, like, dear evan hansen). definitely had some highlights and some lowlights but overall felt a little generic at points.

Mitski Laurel Hell
i personally think laurel hell presents a lot-- 'that's our lamp' felt like a fun and interesting direction, 'everyone' has some amazing lyrics, 'love me more' feels simultaneously brutally honest while sonically suppressing itself-- but it def feels thin compared to her other albums (be the cowboy, puberty 2, and bury me at makeout creek in particular).
