Invent Animate The Sun Sleeps, As If It Never Was
Poppy I Disagree
I remember hearing "Concrete" for the first time, both intrigued and disgusted at the same time. My curiosity got the best of me, and her intriguing approach to music and art, her YouTube videos, and her blonde hair won me over. I love my dose of metal and my dose of bubblegum pop, so hearing the two married filled the empty hole in my soul. And this project is a trip. There are a ton of fun and unexpected twists that will bend your brain backwards, but if you give a chance, you'll come to love and appreciate.
Red (USA) Innocence and Instinct
Every time I listen to this album, I'm always blown away by how much I love it. It's such a cohesive project that flows so beautifully. There are songs that I can rock out to ("Death Of Me"), but also songs can make me cry ("Ordinary World"). I cannot praise this album enough. (My only negative is that a few songs aren't as strong as stand-alone tracks.)

I was worried that the bonus tracks would detract from the original project, but instead they compliment it, even if they do border more on alternative than metal. "If It Bleeds" stands out as the most unique track in the mix. "Don't Ask" is a much better chill offering than "Nothing I Need" and "Bleep Bloop" is like a cousin to "BLOODMONEY." Only "Khaos x4" seems to fall flat a bit, as it is the project's true b-side as it relies on the formula of "Concrete" to exist. But if she's not revisiting this era again, I guess I better take what I'm going to get.
Red (USA) Gone
I will admit, I am coming from a place of nostalgia and sentiment. This album released during a period of time when I wasn't doing the very best emotionally. Feelings aside, I do think that this is a solid release (and the deluxe remixes are low-key enjoyable). Many rock artists had to collapse into the pressure to make an electronic-based album with some poppy songs, and as a result, the production favors those new elements instead of the sound that they're known for. But this album does feature so much of what the band is known for, evocative lyrics ("Losing Control"), soaring music ("A.I."), and beautiful ballads ("The Mask Slips Away"). I understand that this project contains some duds, but it always surprises me to see the fanbase gloss over this project like it doesn't exist.

At first, I dismissed "WHISTLE" as a mediocre pop song, but after listening through the group's discography (and watched their documentary), it now stands as a sweet and charming song. And "BOOMBAYAH" is a freaking bop.

This is BLACKPINK's strongest release yet as it contains some of their most driving songs tinged with emotional performances. (And the remix for "DDU-DU-DDU-DU" is solid.)

Red (USA) Innocence and Instinct - 10th Anniversary Edition
The original album is amazing. The original deluxe tracks tend to ruin the satisfactory ending of the original album, but they're decent songs. The single versions tacked onto this 10th anniversary edition are embarrassing (but I do appreciate having the music video mix of "Ordinary World" among them).

This project is, once again, filled with beautiful songs and mind-blowing melodies. I love how they pushed the envelope further with some more country-inspired songs and other genre implementations (who was expecting those industrial glitches in "closure?"). This album makes me appreciate "folklore" even more and I can't wait to listen to both of these projects on repeat for the next few decades. (The biggest disappointment is "willow," as it literally sounds like a single.)

Because I don't really listen to this music often, it's hard to fully appreciate and it will be a grower, but it left a good impression on me nonetheless. Typically I hate repetition in songs, but here it aids to build the intensity in the atmosphere, and that leaves me throughly impressed. In addition, her voice is beautifully haunting and fits the music and the atmosphere very well.

Red (USA) Of Beauty and Rage
This beautifully chaotic album filled with some of the band's most epic songs to date could have benefitted from either removing some tracks that could have served better as b-sides or a slightly different track sequencing.
Red (USA) End of Silence - 10th Anniversary Edition
The original album is okay. The acoustic tracks exist. (Do we really need a third version of "Already Over?" At least the new version of "Hide" is pretty decent.) However, the b-side "If I Break" is one of the best RED songs and, as a result, is one of my favorites from this project. In addition, "Circles" is a fun listen.
Red (USA) Declaration
It's fun and it's heavy, but that's pretty much all it is. I think the lyrics suffer the most on this record. As this project is their "declaration of independence," the lyrics focus on their new-found freedom, severing old ties, and their determination to keep fighting. Songs regarding the battle within are either poorly attempted ("From The Ashes") or non-existent. (The lone exception goes to "The War We Made," which seems to be connecting to audiences on Spotify better than any other track on the album.) If you need a band-aid for the soul, this ain't it. If you need a fun, heavy project, then you've found it. (Also, points off for the missing breakdown in "Float.")

Here's the issue with CCM music: there's a decent message coupled with okay music, which can make the whole genre seem uninteresting. While the messages on this project are strong and encouraging, the first half of this project kinda is just *there* musically. But the latter half contains some heart-stirring ballads and should leave the listener feeling satisfied.

Red (USA) End of Silence
I understand that this album was a "cultural reset," but I tuned in 10 years late. Some of the songs that are so nostalgic to others fall flat before me. For example, "Pieces" rarely gets me in my feels. Despite the fact that this album doesn't completely resemble the band that exists today, I can appreciate this as a stepping stone in the group's journey.
Red (USA) Until We Have Faces
I personally feel that this album features some of the band's strongest material ("Feed The Machine," "Hymn For The Missing"), but also some of their most half-hearted material ("The Outside," "Not Alone"). I really wish I had listened to this album with no spoilers instead of hearing some of the best songs ahead of time. As a result, I found myself disappointed when I listened through it for the first time, and that disappointment still lingers.

BLACKPINK The Album
Unfortunately, this album tries too hard at appealing to American audiences as it tends to be formulaic ("How You Like That"), forced ("Bet You Wanna"), and, as a whole, is not very cohesive. It is redeemed by fun vocal performances and some of their most heartfelt lyrics yet ("You Never Know"). But as a fan, I have been able to find a few songs to jam to on near repeat whenever I need a pick-me-up. Anyways, I'll just wait here while I anticipate their debut *full-length* album.

This quarantine project is a love letter to the fans in album form. But that's all this project truly aims at: the fans. I don't know how else to put it. With the exception of the dynamic closer (and hit single) "Dynamite," most all these songs will only truly mean something to the fans and the fans only. With this being the first BTS project I've listened to, I'm starting to understand a little more what this group means to their ARMY, because this project is filled with encouraging tracks with reminders to keep their heads up during the COVID-19 pandemic (and other life struggles). This project is filled with funky bops sprinkled with a few acoustic pop tracks, some of which sound too produced and I wish they could be stripped back a bit for a more enjoyable experience (namely "Life Goes On"). I do think that "Blue & Grey" did have a beautiful balance of the acoustic and hip-hop production and I wish more songs on this project reflected that balance. The oddest tracks in this crowd are "Stay," as none of the other songs really reflect that sound, and "Skit," as that track contributes to my opinion of this album truly is more for their fans than anyone else. Despite these missteps, this project is way more cohesive than BLACKPINK's "THE ALBUM."

So . . . I don't think Phoebe re-recorded her vocals. As a result, it sounds more chaotic than beautiful. The new "Chinese Satellite" version is the only track I see worth going back to.
Poppy A Very Poppy Christmas
I don't know what I was expecting. I mean, a metal Poppy Christmas would have been interesting, but she gave us lo-fi and chill instead. At least it makes for something relaxing. (It's always interesting to see all that Ghostemane is capable of, as he produced most of this project.) My expectations aside, this EP doesn't really hold up. The project heavily relies on her voice due to the fact that the instrumentation does not help carry the load like her previous projects have. Her manufactured voice fights against nature as it struggles to be audible and smooth. The project does harken back to older Poppy eras as she teams up again with songwriter Simon Wilcox for her original songs. The lyrics are nothing mindblowing, but when were modern Christmas songs ever game-changing?
Red (USA) Release the Panic
As a fan who loves the aspects that make this band unique, this project is very hard to listen to. The first half of this project, it sound like the band was trying too hard. On the second half, it seems like they're trying to compete with Skillet. (The bonus tracks are enjoyable, but drag on a little too long.) I've had to just step back and just enjoy some songs for what they are (like "Same Disease"), but it will be always hard for me to get over the cheesiness of the lyrics of some songs (namely "Damage").
Red (USA) Release the Panic: Recalibrated
"Run And Escape" is a weird song, but kinda fun and better than most of the original project. The strings in many of these "recalibrated" versions seem a little forced, but they can be enjoyable. The highlight on this project is the reimagined version of "As You Go," as it strips down the original for a track that feels like a loving hug.
