Its hard to say how I really feel about this album. Its a competently made tricot album, but it almost feels *too* competent. Its a better album when compared to AND (because AND feels more like a collection of songs than an album), but it doesn't give us anywhere near the heights of AND or any other tricot album for that matter. Makkuro gives us a condensed, purified summary of tricot sound to this point, with the emo-edge filed down, and whilst I appreciate that, I do hope subsequent tricot releases try to give us something more, whether that is by returning to some of the ideas off 3, or by going more pop like repeat - although maybe that sound is better saved for what seems like an inevitable solo project by Ikkyu. |
