3.0 good |
Elysia Crampton ORCORARA 2010 |
plenty of great ideas, squandered in overproduction, clunky transitions an pretentiously pointless narration. since this was meant to be the soundtrack to an art installation piece, it falls flat on its own. |
Fiona Apple Fetch the Bolt Cutters |
I?m second listen. You guys need to cool off a bit. Apple is always quality though |
Jason Isbell Reunions |
if you solidify yourself as an artist, you will always get a steady, placid 7.5 on Pitchfork no matter how stale the work is. |
Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds Ghosteen |
horribly bloated, and not at all adventurous musically. the two long form tracks on LP2 are just bad. that being said, the good parts of this, like Galleon Ship and Fireflies, are fantastic. doesn't trump Skeleton Tree as their venture into electronics, and is nowhere near the quality of Orpheus/Abattoir as a double album. Though the praise was to be expected, seeing as how this site loves jacking off to limp, lifeless synth music. |
Nick Cave and Warren Ellis Carnage |
Cave's charisma, voice and lyrics salvage some of this, but just like Ghosteen, the arrangements are uninspired and dull. White Elephant is the only true standout. |
Perfume Genius Set My Heart On Fire Immediately |
Thurston Moore screen time |
Tropical Fuck Storm Braindrops |
same atonal drawn-out riff is recycled on three separate songs. long plodding, with a ton of odd little details thrown in to hide a general lack of musical ideas. not much art in this art rock. |
Xiu Xiu OH NO |
couple of highlights, but overall not a very inspired listen. eugene s robinson would have been a natural pick for a duet, and alice bag was criminally underused in her song. |
