Take, for example, the way the riffs are both heavy and crushing but as ambient as your average post-rock band in the same breath. It must have taken them along time to create a sound which is the child of mogwai and the melvins. Its amazing. Melissa Auf Der Maur has a very impressive alt-rock CV as bassist for Hole and Smashing Pumpkins. However i think there's a lot of substance to her solo outing which earns it at least an excellent rating. Ok a lot of people will be put off by the apparent sillyness of certain songs but the vocals and music both come with a haunting quality. The guitars are given a lot of potential, using certain styles associated with everything from Hard Rock and Metal to MBV style indie and lashings of her previous act the Pumpkins. A Kyuss influence rears its head in certain of these songs, something which i couldn't quite place my finger on until she mentioned it in a web zine, giving them a heavy undertone, which seems to have been counterbalanced by her own indie style sophistication. I heartily recommend it.Bad Brains Build A NationBattles MirroredDJ Shadow The OutsiderIhsahn angLIn Flames A Sense of PurposeJaga Jazzist One-Armed BanditLee Scratch Perry MastercutsMogwai Come On Die YoungMogwai Happy Songs for Happy PeopleMogwai Young TeamMuse ShowbizMuse Black Holes & RevelationsSkindred BabylonStreetlight Manifesto Keasbey NightsThe Icarus Line Penance Soiree3.5 greatJesu JesuKillradio Raised on Whipped CreamMeat Puppets Meat PuppetsNine Inch Nails Year ZeroPere Ubu The Modern DanceSaul Williams The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust3.0 goodCarsick Cars Carsick CarsSerj Tankian Elect the Dead2.5 averageGang of Four Entertainment!Rifu Bombs for food, Mines for freedom!2.0 poorGood Charlotte Good Morning RevivalNew Order SubstanceSocial Distortion Sex, Love and Rock 'n' RollSparta ThreesThe Cure Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss MeThe View Hats Off To The Buskers1.5 very poorHard-Fi Once Upon A Time In The WestHIM Uneasy Listening Vol. 1Just Jack OvertonesKate Nash Made of BricksMy Chemical Romance The Black Parade1.0 awfulAtreyu The CurseEnter Shikari Take to the SkiesFall Out Boy Infinity on HighPanic! at the Disco A Fever You Can't Sweat OutParis Hilton ParisTaking Back Sunday Louder Now
