Uh, this is fucking incredible. Can't believe I slept on this. It's like if Stephen Christian joined a metal band. Reminiscent of a blend of The Human Abstract, Leprous, and...who knows. Short songs, constant melodies, great harmonies. Catchy beyond words. "Pulses", "Trail of Lights", and "Keep Yourself Hidden" are some SOTYs for me. Lovely.

Honestly this is the direction I hoped Tesseract was going in before we got Polaris and
Sonder. Every single song is a catchy banger. A bit samey all the way through but I love
every second. A "wow" moment or two in every single song here. Catchy beyond belief.
Voices from the Fuselage Odyssey: The Founder of Dreams
Melodic, fresh, impassioned. Their most consistent work to date. Beautiful.

WHAT?!?! This is the best death metal I've heard in the past year or two. Invigorating, passionate stuff. Nothing is half-assed or formulaic here. Melodic tech death with some -core flourishes and symphonic elements that don't totally take me out of the music like most do.
Hail the Sun Mental Knife
Hail the Sun New Age Filth
I was so wrong after presuming this to just be more of the same. I mean, it is, but it's better
than they've ever sounded. There's even a couple tracks on here with melodies and guitar that
sound like The Mars Volta. There's a real diversity to the melodies employed here, even if it just
sounds like business as usual at first glance. Only Solipsism I'm not in love with, but that's
saying something, since the rest are 9-10/10s. I'm sick to death of Swancore and even DGD bores me
these days. But this, this is refreshing. It's "that" sound, perfected, and not nearly as
obnoxious as their contemporaries. The vocal delivery is far more earnest, honest, passionate
than, say, an Eidola or a DGD.

I almost prefer Mark's harsh vox to his clean ones at this point but this is stunning. Almost flawless, barring the mixing, which is very trebly and whose drums could use some heft. (Read: the snares and kicks aren't that far apart sonically)
Karmanjakah A Book About Itself
Monochromatic Black Pneuma
Very pleasant surprise. I had the wrong first impression from the very ___-core opening moments with pummeling kick drum. But in these few tracks they manage to cover quite a bit of ground. Blistering moments abound. Tight, powerful vocals.

Sick Puppies Dressed Up as Life

Disappointing. Instrumental complexity suffers as a result of tuning itself to Eric's nu-metal vocals. Simple songs. Forgettable. Really sad to say.

Coheed and Cambria Vaxis I: The Unheavenly Creatures
Weird one. While I feel like overall it's an improvement over the YOTBR/Afterman 1+2/Color Before the Sun run, those records also had some more standout catchy classic Coheed tracks on them. The consistency and tone is improved here, but it's all been smoothed out over a homogeneous record that never explicitly offends, but also never really impresses. Four listens later it still feels overlong and has too few catchy choruses and too many weak lyrical moments. It's....fine.

Any great moments are ruined by childish bro-y "Whooo"s and cringe-worthy sound effects. However, in those rare moments that don't make you shake you're head, you're reminded in the best ways of DGD. I do like the sax too.

Fallujah Undying Light
Huh. So after I read all those glowing reviews....nah. If you've heard the two singles, you've rrheard the whole album. This is a regression in songwriting. What happened?! Not a fan ranymore..too bad. It's monotonous and the guitars are drowned-out most of the time. Any sense of ratmosphere is rgone. They've lost their personality. This just flew by twice without notice and rthat makes me sad.
