This is music with an introverted, creative, exploratory heart, all while being loud, proud, and defiant. Also, it's fuckin sick. A sweet little amalgam of everything I want from electronic music right now.

A Winged Victory for the Sullen The Undivided Five
Alina Baraz and Galimatias Urban Flora
Take the sexual and nocturnal atmosphere that's saturating today's r&b / electronic scene, and rcombine it with the detail, orchestral flourishes, and catchiness of Bonobo's most sensual works r(I'm most reminded of "Stay the Same," and the rest of Black Sands. Also, Shlohmo's busy, knick-rknack percussion style). And then slow it all down. Unlike many other cookie-cutter acts rattempting to take on this sleek and sexy modern sound, Alina Maraz and Galimatias succeed on more rlevels than just creating the "mood", on which so many of their contemporaries tend to over-focus, rwhere the goal is simply to create something erotic-sounding and not much else. No, this album is renjoyable on a purely musical level as well. It proves that new-millennium sex-jams don't have to rbe minimal and monochromatic to be sexy. They can also be busy, nuanced, and, occasionally, quite rloud. The duo seesaw between these two sounds masterfully. Excited for the full-length, if it's ranywhere as good as this.

plenty of substance here, dude's a one-man army. love his production on this (it's entirely self-produced), he's a technically great rapper, and he has some decent hooks. in the future i'd like to see him branch out lyrically and tighten up his hooks even more. but the dude is only 18 - can't wait to see how he fills out his potential.

Jeremih Late Nights: Europe
On "Europe", the third release in the "Late Nights" series, Jeremih is more concerned with writing
moods instead of memorable songs, with a few bangers thrown in for good measure. After a few
tracks in, it becomes apparent that Jeremih isn't trying to capture the essence of the songs'
respective cities/countries, but more so trying to recreate the moods of his hotel rooms therein.
This is disappointing and feels like a wasted opportunity, as his last two releases have proven
him to be a songwriter capable of doing much more with this concept than he's done here. Still, if
you?re a fan of Jeremih's signature minimalistic slow jams, chances are you'll find something to
like here. The mixtape's at its most memorable when it deviates from its formula: Belgium is a
fast-paced, bass-heavy banger, and Copenhagen is sweet and catchy, featuring a great performance
from Sonyae that makes the track worth returning to. Otherwise, the album is no more than suitable
background music for hedonistic hotel rooms.

Tinashe Joyride
Lmao, what the fuck Tinashe. The album starts off strong with the t/t and "No Drama", two great
songs. Then "He Don't Want it" happened, and a bead of sweat appeared on my forehead. Then I heard
that indescribably atrocious bed-creaking sample in the first 10 seconds of "Ooh La La" (no
really, I have no right word for how fucking annoying it is), and I knew it was all over. It's an
otherwise good song ruined by so tasteless a sample. Seriously, what the fuck was she trying to
do? The rest of the album can likewise only be described as insipid and contrived, with few
exceptions. What's clear to me is that she needs to drop these aspirations of becoming a cookie-
cutter superstar if these are going to be the dividends we see. The difference in passion between
Nightride and Joyride makes it so obvious that her heart is somewhere else musically. She should
have done more of that, but instead we have this thing, so confused with what it wants to be that
it ends up being nothing at all.
