4.5 superb
Metallica ...And Justice for All
Volbeat Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies
Not sure where the "radio-friendly" songs are...none of this is any more "radio-friendly" than "A Warrior's Call" or "Still Counting" were. I think with "Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies" Volbeat has really achieved excellent blending of their unusual metal/country/rockabilly influences instead of having distinct divisions of each within the same song - or more strongly rockabilly/metal/country tracks on the same album - as in the past. "Doc Holliday", "Black Bart", "Room 24", and "Ecotone" (if you get the deluxe version) are killer tracks. I have listened to this album repeatedly from start to finish and do not think there are any fillers. I also found the subject matter of this album more enjoyable than previous offerings, as Doc Holliday, Lola Montez, Black Bart and Pearl Hart were all real, historical individuals from the old West. I was more intrigued by the storylines on this album than I was on "Guitar Gangsters...", which I personally felt was their weakest album.rI've been listening to Volbeat for a long while, from their first album to now, and I think this is their most complete album to date. I think the addition of Rob Caggiano was a very positive addition and I personally welcome the guitar solos he brings as I feel it completes many of the tracks. I would put it equal to "Beyond Hell/Above Heaven" if not better.
