Ground Dweller is not your typical post- hardcore album; the band is one of only a few in the genre to only use clean vocals. Some fans of the genre may argue that without the screams, the potential to show emotion through their songs drops, but it is quite the opposite. Vocalist Trenton Woodley shows his talent and great range, notably in This Ain't No Place For Animals, Lion Skin, and One Hundred. Matty Mullins of Memphis May Fire, Tyler Carter from Issues, and Johnny Craig currently with Emarosa all make cameos and fit great with the band's sound. The rest of the band's use of catchy choruses, guitar riffs, and perfectly- fitting keyboard parts along with upbeat drum fills give this band a unique and experimental view. It's not that it has never been done before, but they are putting their own mark on the genre and certainly changing it up a bit. This band has real talent. My only complaint is that the songs are easy to blend together and interchange. Each does somewhat have its own feel, but it is easy to confuse them. Overall though, this is a very solid album and these guys are certainly making a name for themselves. |
