liledman Except he never dug free-jazz, and that's why I have always had reservations about him. I get the arguments for him being most influential in jazz, as he had one of the longest careers as a player who continually mattered. The only thing about him is that while his playing can be great, it is usually his group who outshine him. His greatest talent was assembling all those fantastic groups I think. Calling him the most important person of 20th century music though is a bit of a stretch. December 10 11:31 PM
