Tantrum of the Muse Modernmu$ick(2000)!
A masterpiece that revels in excess. Heavy as all get out, frighteningly melodic, and it takes joy in its excursive experiments throughout. This is an absolutely amazing example of experimental music that loses no substance or extremity through its many twists and turns. This time around, TotM perfects their studio-to-performance ratio and strikes gold with each new track. There is something so magically dark about this album. It's evidently religious but you can tell it was made just to piss people off. Humor, violence, intense reflection, and an avant-garde edge are the things that make this such a work of art. A must listen.
Tantrum of the Muse The Heart Is a Two-Headed Sperm
Though a bit turgid at times, this is an absolutely great album that is as confusing as it is enjoyable. Tantrum of the Muse shows how violent and unrelenting their sound and message is with few punches held back on this album. Bungle-esque experimentation runs rampant through and it holds many likenesses to metal acts such as Helmet or Acid Bath but it never hesitates to a unique offering.
Recession Time, Arithmetic, and Other...
Ever wanted to know what mud sounds like? This anvil of an album still manages to be very well done through the noisy assault that it mercilessly lashes out on the listener. There is little originality or structure to this, though, which makes it hard to enjoy in some points. There is a subtle amount of variance throughout that shows the band perhaps being a bit too ambitious and fails to hit the nail at times. Good album, overall, and surprisingly overlooked.
Look What I Did My First Time
Musically ahead of its time but its punk attitude feels unwelcome and may cause the listener to be uncomfortable at times (think Mindless Self-Indulgence meets The Dillinger Escape Plan). Some of these songs are good and run with great ideas but the overwhelming immaturity, though tongue-in-cheek, bogs the experience down.
