This album was incredible despite the massive shift in playing style but can this really be that unexpected due to Jon's prison sentence? I did not find one Track that was gratuitously worse, like people have said about the whole album. It seems quite clear to me that the recording quality and mixing of the albums seems to play a huge roll in the Black vs. Melodic elements and it seems that having more digital and enhanced quality scares away the people searching for the Blackened elements. The guitar style is so similar you can hear that it is in fact Jon's work.. Sorry to say but if you don't like new Dissection and don't see the similarities in "New" and "Old" Dissection you obviously do not have the right to listen to them. Bring on the hate mail and in all responses to them in advance "Use your Brain."
Like many of you, I initially struggled with this album, since it isn't anything like Dissection's previous albums. But in the years since it was first released it has grown on me like few other albums ever have. My ipod's play count doesn't lie -- I've played this album far more than the other Dissection albums, and this set of songs sticks in the mind for days after a listen. My only complaint is the relative lack of blastbeats, but that's just a minor issue. So what if this is different from the past. This is good stuff!
