Simple Math is colossal is every way imaginable. It takes every hint of brilliance that Manchester Orchestra has subtly displayed in "I'm Like a Virgin Losing a Child" and "Mean Everything to Nothing", and nurtures and cultivates it into the single greatest sounding thing that the band has ever and likely ever will create. At times glossed over with heart-swelling strings and at other times perfecting the band's nitty gritty sound from songs like "Shake It Out", Simple Math is the perfect balance of Manchester Orchestra's best traits. It is utterly breathtaking upon first listen, and every subsequent listen will only cause your jaw to drop an additional inch or two. This is simply the greatest album to be released in the past 5 years, and it will be worth every drop of hyperbolic acclaim that it receives.

Epic, majestic, highly personal yet easy to relate to, Simple Math is Manchester Orchestra's potential realized in full. A brilliant album from a brilliant band, and a top contender for album of the year.

It seems that the new fad sweeping the nation is one of alt./Indie Rock (play Manchester Orchestra, Brand New, and From Indian Lakes consecutively and I'm sure 75% of people wouldn't be able to tell the difference) much like Nu-Metal did in the 90's. Thankfully, THIS genre is for the most part much more listenable. When you get down to it this is just that, one of your standard Alt./Indie Rock albums. Nothing on here that hasn't been done before, but in the whole scheme of things, it's a solid album from a band capable of just a bit more. 3.7/5

After putting the "rock" back in indie-rock, Manchester Orchestra return in majestic fashion on 'Simple Math'. An even fuller sound is evident here, with intricately layered arrangements being complemented by a strings ensemble & occasional horns. Both within songs & between them, the balance of vulnerable intimacy & tense power is expertly crafted, with Andy Hull's intensely captivating vocals begging to be crooned, & then screamed, along to. With only the closer approaching filler, this is another superb & consistent release from this prolific & evolving Atlantan quintet. Recommended Tracks: Mighty, Simple Math, Virgin, Pale Black Eye & Pensacola.

At the few first listens I really dug this album and this band. Little did i know that it would find its way into my cd player again, and again, and again. I cant stop listening to this album, you can put it in and let it ride (a'thank you) top 100 cds of all time for me.

I agree with many of the reviews of this album but offer a grain of salt: because of poor production choices (the drums *cough* *cough*) and short running time "Simple Math" isn't quite the classic I hoped for... but damn it's close and I love it all the same. Buy this thang.

at this point (5/3/11), ive listened to this 3 times. will be dissapointed if i have to move this down. the whole album is fantastic. i thought they would completley lose their souther rock influences but i was wrong. the title track might be more intimate than "i can feel a hot one". i didnt know that was possible. btw the kids in virgin. need i say more?FUCK
