| 0.0 | couldwinarabbit | February 18th 11 | rWhy does it have to be a change of sound? Why does it have to be a revolution? Why do they have to be the innovators and pioneers? After ten years can't they pass the torch on? Can’t they just for once fall back on what they do best? But they don’t. This time it is neither a sound nor genre change, Radiohead is accustomed to those. Here Radiohead changes the only absolute in their music in the past dozen years. They make it human. The cold mechanical tenacity of bygone days is replaced by a comfort, inspiration and hope. Not that “King of Limbs” doesn’t try to hide the fact that there is evil in the world but it comes to the conclusion that “Two wrongs don’t make a right”…and this is so right.r

| 0.0 | Lewis P. STAFF | February 21st 11 | Time to chime in. Here we go: Radiohead Make Another Album. End quote. What's left to talk about? One of the most important bands working today doesn't make an Important Album, and instead retreats to the bedroom to dust and rearrange the furniture. Thom Yorke sings as if he's lounging from the couch, or making tea from the kitchen, or watching a political rally on mute and becoming slightly aroused. The King of Limbs is free of preconceived notions, namely those that we always expect of Radiohead, like re-defining themselves or defining an era. Going into 2011, the start of an anonymous decade if I've ever seen one (indefinable, maybe?), Radiohead opt to spread their style thick and amorphously on The King of Limbs as if molding used clay, lifting liberally from their past to perfect it. The album flails about and dies early; in the excess, perfunctory and compact as it is, we have a Radiohead that really sounds human, even if striking that balance between humanity and machine has been their calling for over a decade. In Rainbows came close, but The King of Limbs makes it look positively exhausting in comparison. We move in with the Head of this impossible machine, find his crumbs on the couch, see him hunched over his computer, whispering the funnier tweets he comes across with the most pathetic look in his eyes. What does it sound like? Every Radiohead album ever-- but this band is jamming from your couch. Comfy, ain't it? I dare say I enjoy this immensely more than the others. I welcome the day we celebrate "Separator" as one of Radiohead's best songs.

In a world where Thom Yorke rambles more about the environment and our coalition than he ever would about what his new album's going to sound like- in a world where telling us that David Cameron sucks somehow adds to the mystery of what LP8 is going to sound like- it's sort of brilliant that The King of Limbs comes in a vacuum. There's nothing here that lends itself to a worldwide listening party, and in a way that's why it would suck so bad if the conspiracy behind "Separator" actually came true- The King of Limbs is, as simple as it sounds, a personal record, not for want of treating each listener uniquely, but rather for each fan being able to approach Radiohead differently. It's downtempo and we want to know why, and a hundred listens in we get our very own album. I don't want this to define my decade, our decade, and I don't think David Cameron does either. Fuckin' Tory, right? N.B. This album isn't actually political.

| 3.0 good | Matthew D. French CONTRIBUTOR | February 20th 11 | So, two things should be duly noted here. 1) A lot of fans are destined to love this, even if they don't actually love it, for this simple reason: it was crafted by Radiohead. 2) Those of us who don't love it or even claim to strongly dislike it have surely set the bar too high for Radiohead...right? A lot of people will fall into one of these two categories, and while I'm decidedly not a Radiohead connoisseur, I think it's safe to say that many could presume my rating is weighted by the fact that I don't care for Radiohead all that much, and that I was perhaps expecting too much of this. However, as there was next to no hype surrounding its release, I can say that the latter can't be entirely true. From a clearly objective stance, this is a very restrained version of Radiohead, and while for some ineffable reason Thom Yorke seems to be the face of the band, it's perceptible that the whole band isn't playing to their potential. Thom's monotonous vocals are probably the most notable detractor here (honestly, he doesn't sound into it at all), but other members add to this detraction by never allowing their songs to flourish. I'm aware that this isn't a record dominated by tension, but there's very little musical exploration here.

| 0.0 | AXDS | February 19th 11 | Boring and repetitive, that's all I have to say about this. This only has high ratings because it is by Radiohead; if this album were made by any other band that nobody never heard of, most people would probably rate it a 3 or a 3.5. I'm not saying I don't like Radiohead, I've never listened to any of their other albums. The only other song I've heard from them is Paranoid Android, which is an amazing song so I may revisit this album after giving OK Computer a chance.

| 0.0 | Gypsy Swag Emeritus | March 29th 12 | when radiohead was saying they were gonna release this album in a way that had never been done before and everyone lost there shit and started freaking out about a second disc and invisible webpages and shit i think they missed something...so the album is entitled The King of Limbs which was accompanied by a 01 on various dl's and such throughout radioheads site. This combined with the short run time, and lyrics at the end "if you think this is ever you're wrong" and the statement about this new release method made everyone pretty confident that there was more. and i don't think that was so wrong anymore..the 3 singles released before and after king of limbs all featured songs that feel like perfect fits for the album and everyone started arguing over which songs should replace what etc to make the ultimate king of limbs album. i think what radiohead ingeniously did, was possibly intentionally release the main body as a incomplete notion and all these other excellent songs in other ways almost like severed limbs. all these frustrated fans did exactly what i think Radiohead meant by this new release method, by building new versions of king of limbs and circulating them on the internet. the true king of limbs experience is to reassemble the album with its missing limbs to form the ultimate complete experience. hence, the listener becomes the king of limbs.

| 3.5 great | David James Young | June 25th 11 | Arguably the most lucid thing Radiohead have ever recorded. This is a smooth, spaced-out jazzy cruise that relies heavily on the atmospherics and ambience created within it. It's not one of their best albums by any stretch, but it's very easy listening and engaging in that ever-intriguing post-OK Computer style that reminds you that Radiohead are changing the questions just as you've figured out the answers.

| 3.0 good | Hunter0817 | March 7th 11 | Just because it's Radiohead doesn't make it worth shouting about, but it also doesn't mean it should be a disappointment. Instead, while the hipsters overrate it and the fans complain about it's length, the British rockers are ignoring the noise because they accomplished what they wanted to and nothing more: a quiet and minimalist piece that will hypnotize you momentarily and then be forgotten. It's not a musical adventure like their previous album 'In Rainbows'. It's a cool experience.

| 4.0 excellent | KidAmnesiac | February 19th 11 | I really like your view on the album. I feel like your review better explains a "great" or "outstanding" album. TKOL is an album that does exactly as you say and irons out the flaws they feel they had in previous albums. I love that notion and feel like it is one of the most interesting takes on the album. That being said, the album is extremely tight. No time at all is wasted on mediocrity. Every single hymn, beat and note is carefully constructed. The album's production values are off the charts. rAnd how dare some of you ask for free streams or whatever. Go torrent it so that you aren't in our faces and upfront about being 'poor'. Please. You aren't poor, you're lazy or unintelligent. Get a job and learn to save money, learn to say no to that $7 value meal or those $5 packs of cigarettes. Pathetic.

| 4.5 superb | patrickfannon | March 1st 12 | In true Radiohead fashion, The King of Limbs blossoms slowly and kingly; unfolding its lotus bloom with care, dilligence, and patience. This is an adult rock album, and it is meant to be enjoyed by adults who think and feel deeply. Thom sings with the conviction and passion of a man who has experienced much; created much with his hands of which he is proud and for which millions of people adore him. At this point in their career, Radiohead are confident, and dangerously so for every other band in the world. From the otherworldy, underwater electro-balled opener "Bloom," to the heartbreakingly gorgeous, piano-backlight "Codex", to the stunningly groovy jam of "Lotus Flower," King lives up to its royal billing. I am so grateful I took the time to give this a second chance, as I always am with Radiohead, and I know have another album on the list of those which I must give to my children, should they find themselves here one day.

| 3.5 great | Wastelander | July 6th 11 | It takes a lot of listens to actually get into the album. This is not the same anthemic rock you heard in OK Computer, nor the harmonic sounds you've heard in Kid A and In Rainbows. The instrumental work is choppy and it really feels old. The production is outdated and it feels more distorted than usual. But once you get into the album and look past its flaws, this is really good. Yorke is at his best falsetto performance since Amnesiac, and tracks such as 'Morning Mr. Magpie', 'Codex', and to a lesser extent, 'Lotus Flower', should more than please fans. It just takes a lot of listening to appreciate it, and even then you can't fully praise it.

| 3.5 great | lz41 | November 22nd 12 | FINALLY- Radiohead go where even the most devoted electro-nuts are too scared to follow. | 3.5 great | Pixicato | October 28th 12 | Kind of reminds me of Remain in Light, to be honest, though not quite as awesome -- but why all the dubstep comparisons? This sounds nothing like dubstep, especially because it doesn't stick to a tired old formula. Songs on this one aren't epic journeys anymore, but short and concise statements of feeling. That being said, is it a good or a bad thing? I can't say because the album doesn't decide for me -- not like Kid A, not like OK Computer.
Bump |
| 3.0 good | Sevhead | October 5th 12 | The first half of The King of Limbs is a collection of non-essential Radiohead B sides, while the second half is a very tight and focused (while relaxed) progression from In Rainbows. Codex may be one of the band's best tracks to date.

Radiohead is really trying to kill the hype for this thing. And I see good reason, this is not what anyone would
have guessed from a Radiohead album, it's short, very rough, and almost indie sounding. It's a great album,
but for all the fans hoping for another Kid A, or even The Bends, this as far as possible from what they were
hoping for.

It sat on my shelf for another week before I decided to give this iconic band their fair chance, and on the second spin I started to realize just how incredible this release is. Not only does it harken back to the Kid A era of the band, but it pushes the envelope further and continues to explore the boundaries of their music, boundaries which are sky high. This exciting new release from Radiohead deserves nothing less than a Superb ranking.

| 4.0 excellent | Harreus | June 6th 11 | Very nice album, although perhaps not worth the hyperbole heaped upon it. It definitely needs to be listened to as a whole feature, the individual songs stand out little (with the exception of Lotus Flower). | 4.0 excellent | EverAdrift | May 18th 11 | What to say...? Well, to begin with: this is obviously a Radiohead album. That practically means the album is better than 95% of the music out there by definition. And it is; The King of Limbs is a brilliant, great album. However, it's certainly not their best. When listening to it I can't help but find it a bit disjointed and lacking. Disjointed in the sense that the first four songs and the second four songs sound like they should be totally different EPs rather than part of on singular LP. Lacking in the sense that it's short. Too short; another song or two would have helped flesh this out more. rComplaints aside, this is still, as I said, a Radiohead album. It's innovative, fascinating, gorgeous, frustrating... everything you'd expect. It's not the best album they've put out but it's definitely worth (a lot) of listens by any serious music fan. Plus it contains what is arguably the best song of the year so far: Codex.

| 3.5 great | Colin Rinehart | March 21st 11 | This is the Radiohead I love. Experimental, beautiful, haunting, emotional. As great as the group is I've always found them a bit overrated, feeling that their epic ballads were sometimes quite sterile, but this album just clicked with me from start to finish. While some say it's a return to the Kid A sound, it's more than that, it's a progression of that and it's both fresh and unique. There are some amazing songs on here, mainly "Bloom", "Codex", and "Separator", but all of the songs are good really. Maybe it helps that I first listened to it on a rainy Monday afternoon so the downtempo mood was appropriate. rTheir best since Amnesiac.

| 4.5 superb | progbabe88 | March 21st 11 | Have to agree with the last paragraph for sure. We in the music world know Radiohead are truly amazing, but the album wasn't worth all of the hype. I love "The Lotus Flower" though, it's addicting.

Gave it three chances, and then I let it grow on my subconscious for a couple weeks. Popped it back in, and wow, it turned out to be anohter great Radiohead album. rIn ten years when people are trying to assign describtions and attributes to The King of Limbs, I hope they remember how surprising and foreign it sounded at first listen. There' a lot of exciting stuff quietly going on this beautiful stranger of an album, and it's going to take many listens to completely understand it. The King of Limbs at first seems like a misfire, but likely, it's going to wind up yet another game changer in the music industry to come out of Radiohead.

| 3.0 good | Adam Peter | March 11th 11 | This album was kind of a disappointment. It's way too experimental for its own good, and right when you can really grasp it, the album ends. The songs, especially in the later half of the album, can be very interesting though.

| 3.5 great | M.S. Nielsen | February 26th 11 | This album is groovy. More so than Kid A and Amnesiac. Add to this the usual (but not any less inspiring) Radiohead-sque emotive transcendence + the electronic quirkiness embraced and refined in the past decade.

| 3.5 great | rmill3r | February 21st 11 | Radiohead take UK's popular minimalist electronica movement and make it into something completely their own. It's definitely not the best thing Radiohead has ever done, but it's still great in its own right.
Bump |
| 4.5 superb | Mark Campbell | February 21st 11 | Although the album is sorta back-loaded it's fucking great. From opener "Bloom" we know right away that this isn't going to be In Rainbows with its glitched-out reggae downbeat, horn sections, repeated electronic pulses, and incredibly busy rhythm. Thom Yorke and (to a lesser extent) Jonny Greenwood own this album more than any other in Radiohead's yet, with the rest of the band contributing more in the first half (Phil Selway giving probably his best performance yet on drums) and the back being mainly ballads and stripped-down ambient/acoustic tracks (with the exception of the full-band "Separator"). The plus is that at a lean 37 minutes, not a minute is wasted and it's easy to listen to over and over. The only real downside being that ultimately this is the first Radiohead album where they slip into a comfort zone instead of innovating like normal. Which is fine.
The rhythms are Radiohead's most deliciously-twisted yet (Selway and Colin are the clear standouts on the first half) and the heavy reliance on electronics (moreso than any of the older stuff) brings this more towards the Kid A/Amnesiac side of the spectrum. But then that fucking epic second half comes in on Radiohead's catchiest (and now most infamous on teh webz) single yet in "Lotus Flower", before lulling us into dreamy sleep with the piano-led ballad of "Codex", almost certain to be a future Radiohead classic. Then the haunting, acoustic overtones of "Give Up The Ghost" drift in, with the constant repeat of "don't hurt me". Then Thom goes "I think I should GIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE UP THE GHOOOOOOOOOST" with that amazing falsetto and you wonder how you didn't know already that this is just as good as any of their other albums are.
Bump |
| 3.5 great | sonicExplorer | February 20th 11 | Thom spent days figuring out which order to put the songs in for OK Computer.rIt sounds like he spent 10 minutes with this. These guys are still great with arrangements. Everything intertwines so fluidly it could leave you picking out new sonic details years from now. However, I can't help but feel that the first four tracks are a little melodically lacklustre; re-listening through the last three tracks as I am now, I can't for the life of me remember how those first four went.
