After Blackbird, expectations were set very high for Alter Bridge's next album. I'm pleased to say that the band hasn't let us down. Tremonti still rules behind the ax, dishing out more memorable riffs and solos, and Myles Kennedy still dazzles with his vocals. It's also a darker, more brooding album, so it's a bit less accessible than the band's previous work. It may not have a track as good as Blackbird or Ties That Bind, but it still rules nonetheless, a much-needed triumph for mainstream rock.

Mediocre. Above-average, super heavy riffs from Bromonti coupled with ridiculous Chipmunk-esque high notes from Myles Kennedy does not good album make.

Alter Bridge matures again. While the album is softer than Blackbird, the tracks have a brooding depressing rfeeling that works fantasticly for the band. Tremonti's cleans are more noticeable throughout and the two singer rdynamic adds a whole new depth to their sound. Tremonti's solos are a bit weaker this time around, but Myle's rvocal strength and the awesome riffs make up for it. I really didn't think I would say this, but this is prpbably as rgood if not better than Blackbird.

There is also no doubt this is the band’s heaviest album to date – it creates a dark, brooding atmosphere. However, as many critics have pointed out, Alter Bridge does have a tendency to get repetitive with their chord progressions and overall song structures. Just like with the band’s returning strengths, it also appears that their weaknesses have returned, except in even greater numbers. Alter Bridge has no doubt created a solid, if not exceptional album technically and vocally. But its lack of memorable moments, combined with excessive length and filler, make AB III boil down to an instrumentally impressive album that does not live up to its potential.

Myles Kennedy sings really high, Tremonti fingerpicks and shreds, everybody tunes down reallll low and it sounds good. Not memorable or lasting, but good. I guess.

Alter Bridge should just have made this album shorter. Moodier and heavier than its predecessor, ABIII goes way too long for the genre and repeats itself too many times; 'Still Remains' and 'I know it hurts' are way too similar; 'Make it right', 'Fallout', 'Breathe Again' and 'Life must go on' add absolutely nothing to the album, except for continuing the storyline of a nihilist looking for the truth. When not forgettable and a bit dull - like in the cases of 'Make it right' and 'Breathe again' -, those songs keep the music quality of the album, but are unnecessary and would maybe work out better as b-sides. The next effort should have a wider field for innovation. rListen to: Slip to the void, Isolation, Coeur d'Alene, Words darker than their wings.

Another group of competent musicians with a couple of great songs and tons of formulaic filler. That's not to say the album's bad, far from it, as Alter Bridge invariably moves as a powerful, synergistic unit, but it feels wasteful to spend that power on such predictable and forgettable material. If only they had the courage not to play it so safe. Because songs like Slip to the Void show they have the talent.

It would've been an superb album if there hadn't been some songs on the album. They completely destroy the atmosphere and make it repetitive at points(e.g. Breathe Again). Some song structures are used too often - for example "Fallout" and "Coeur d'Alene" sound really similar in terms of structure ...too similar. Not saying that I hate the happy songs on this album, but they don't create a good contrast to the rest of the album. In fact, they are just mediocre(or even less).

Actually a lot better than i was expecting. I just don't like the fact that this is really extended, 66 minutes is a long time for an album in my opinion, but this still managed to be their best work to date.
