| 2.5 average | Mark Campbell | September 29th 09 | Music = really tech and still not as catchy/fun as their old stuff
Vocals = stop fucking singing Thomas Erak you SUCK! I don't care what your French vocal-coach girlfriend tells you, she's lying and you suck!

| 3.5 great | Adam Thomas CONTRIBUTOR | September 28th 09 | In the Unlikely Event turned out better than I thought. The beefy production helps bring back the heavier sound that Manipulator was lacking while still exploring new levels of catchy wankery. Erak's voice has never been the focal point of the Fall of Troy and as one would expect he has a little too much confidence in his vocal abilities which leads to the occasional awkward moment, but it never dampens the experience. All in all the Fall of Troy seem to be piecing things back together after the missteps of Manipulator.

| 2.5 average | Caleb McAlpine CONTRIBUTOR | September 28th 09 | In The Unlikely Event is proof that The Fall of Troy are as instrumentally strong as ever. Even the stubbornest of listeners will be impressed by the many delicious moments of sheer technicality peppered throughout the record. 'Walk of Fame' heralds some of the band's most bizarre time changes and Erak's most impressive guitar wankery to date, 'Dirty Pillow Talk' boasts some catchy guest vocals from Rody Walker (who coincidentally isn't singing about prison guards or beheading mongols) and 'Panic Attack!' illustrates the band finally getting a grip on writing a poppier song that doesn't suck. Yet these gems on In The Unlikely Event are outweighed by a thousand other mishaps. 'Battleship Graveyard' highlights how tone-deaf Erak has finally become, 'Empty the Clip, the King Has Been Slain, Long Live The Queen!' boasts an incredibly terrible/tacky pop chorus and 'Nature vs. Nurture' contains one of the most laughable spoken word parts in modern music - the sad thing is, I could go on and on about In The Unlikely Event's flaws. It really is The Fall of Troy's weakest effort yet and there are very few redeemable qualities beyond the ones I mentioned - take a listen and vindicate me.

| 3.5 great | elephantREVOLUTION | October 2nd 09 | I am a huge fan of Manipulator, so I had high hopes for this album. Needless to say, I was very disappointed when I heard this. Regardless of my high hopes, this album is just missing something. I'm not 100% sure what is missing, but I just can't get that into it that much. Some of the songs have grown on me, but not enough to really love them. The only songs I like a lot are Single, Panic Attack, and Battleship Graveyard. The rest of the album is meh. One thing they are missing is the long epic song at the end of the album. The self-titled had "What Sound Does A Mastodon Make?", Doppelganger had "Macauley McCulkin," Manipulator had "A Man A Plan...," and In The Unlikely Event has...NOTHING. EDIT: After listening to this a lot more (mainly in my car), I have grown to like most of the tracks quite a bit. I would still say this is their weakest release but it's not that bad.

| 2.5 average | Christopher Kenrick | September 28th 09 | I want to dig this album, it has some sheer awesomeness scattered here and there, with Walk of Fame and Straight Jacket Keelhauled being two of my personal highlights. It's an interesting progression from Manipulator, this is by far their most poppy album with some really catchy vocals but Waior is DEFINITELY right on Battleship Graveyard, Thom's vocals are VERY off... and this is coming from someone who generally enjoyed his vocals. So the way I see this album (with a shitty analogy), an icecream of catchy vanilla mediocrity with a tasty flake of chocolaty goodness in it.

| 4.5 superb | DanceAllynDance | September 28th 09 | k you people are retarded, like seriously can you not hear progression and just accept it? like really are you that "tone deaf"? or are you just deaf in general? seriously this is probrably the strongest most mature fall of troy effort to date. poppy yes, tacky, no, come on, you doppleganger/st lovers, get with it. this is gold.

| 1.5 very poor | GnarlyShillelagh | November 1st 09 | What is this shit?
Not only the worst TFoT album ever, but one of the worst albums of the year.

| 3.0 good | Jonnyborg | October 9th 09 | a bit of a let down. But not nearly as bad as everyone says. Remember when everyone freaked out over manipulator? yeah, this is more of that. I would like to remind everyone that Erak didn't write an album of "caught up" part 2's

| 3.0 good | joeplayo | October 6th 09 | This album is very different from the previous three full lengths. I was expecting a funky Mars Volta-esque style, because that's how PoTH vocals had sounded, and that's how the interviews made it seem, but they have taken it to a strange math/pop rock style. I DO NOT think this album deserves a 2.0 at all though, it may be a lot poppier but that does not mean it is terrible. Thomas Erak's vocals have gotten much better, the screams are lacking though, they're much too natural. I feel that this band will be treated the same way as Fear Before, when they released their self-titled and lost a lot of fans. It's the people who love the band that will see the maturity of the new album, and not shun it for lack of screaming. As a musician, the guitar parts are up to par, but the song structures have become a little bit more... structured. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but maybe a bit hard to swallow. This album is much groovier than previous releases, but it's not very funky and that would have made it much better. The only track i would say is truely not up to par would be Empty The Clip, The King Has Been Slain, Long Live The Queen! only because it has that classic post-hardcore absurd title, but is very poppy and does not offer much besides a somewhat catchy chorus and good instrumentation. Also i feel like the song Webs is just another Caught Up, a joke just used to fill up space on the album. As an album, it's a breath of fresh air to the post-hardcore overdone monotony, but as far as a chapter in the fall of troy... it could have been better.

| 3.0 good | Ryan Edwards | October 5th 09 | sooooo its like manipulator, without a man a plan? ...great.
his vocals are getting worse, and in some parts he sort of reminded me of he is legend (not in a good way).

| 2.5 average | Andross026 | October 4th 09 | this sure as fuck isnt a 5 for all you idiots rating it a 5. everythign has been toned down compared to their prior releases. i was expecting erak's voice to improve as he was getting lessons from his jazz singer girlfriend, but this did not help at all. as said by others the heavy parts are not even heavy and overall the cd is lame.

| 2.5 average | gocsa666 | October 4th 09 | No Improvement on Manipulator. The best song is Dirty Pillow Talk, only because Rody Walker's in it and beats the crap out of Erak vocally.

| 1.5 very poor | Brian Owen | October 2nd 09 | I can barely stand to listen to two songs out of the twelve on this album. The vocals and sound are weak all around. There's no punch to anything, everything is so laid back. It doesn't work for me, guitar wankery is supposed to be nuts and this is too calm. Even the heavy parts don't sound heavy. Panic Attack! got my hopes up, but this just let me down hard. Even that could have been improved a bit, turn the bass up please...

| 2.0 poor | ShanevsDCsniper | September 29th 09 | don't know how to rate this, but definitely a little bit disappointing. this album is the culmination of the direction the
fall of troy has been taking since their amazing self-titled. technically more wanktastic than ever, and no shortage of
catchy hooks, but this has nothing that hooked me to begin with. this is definitely no longer the band i fell in love
with.

| 3.0 good | Tw1ster | September 28th 09 | In the Unlikely Event is an average album at best, yet I still find it to be good ol' fashioned fun brought to us by our good friends in The Fall of Troy. First off, Thomas is not a good singer, he thinks he is, but he never has been and probably never will be. I have never enjoyed the vocals but have always enjoyed their albums. The great musicianship here alone warrants nothing lower than a rating of 3. For disappointed fans, just put it on, and let go.
Bump |
| 3.0 good | Taxt | September 28th 09 | This was definitely underwhelming.
The instrumental aspect is still kick ass, and Thomas still writes some sick guitar licks, but the way this is produced puts too much pressure on the vocals and they just can't hold the weight.
Not to mention the lyrics are his worst ever.
The lyrics were never amazing or anything, but really, most of these are just sophomoric bullshit.
They still put on a great live show though, that's for sure.
