3.0 goodTheWatchman71 | November 5th 21

The 3 is for the 3rd disc only. What a wasted opportunity. A load of half baked sketches at under 2 minutes long. Or just
vocals from one track mixed with the music from another track. For a pair of albums as good as these they surely
deserved a better deluxe release than this. I was hoping the 3rd disc would be as relevant and important as IR disc 2. Or
at least some more fleshed out songs that give us a better idea about how the band were developing new ideas. For
what it?s worth I do actually like the versions of spinning plates, fog and true love waits. If You Say the Word is a great
addition to my collection. Follow me should have ended after about 3 minutes. Overall, I was expecting brilliance but got
scraps from the table.

I think the third disc is mistakenly saw as a compilation of songs from that era, or “another NOTOK” .
With this mindest you’ll be disappointed, if you listen track by track you’ll be disappointed, aside from 3-4
“complete” songs that are without doubt worth on their own.
But if you put your headphones on and enjoy the flow of this album you’ll find that every song has a purpose and
ends/starts in a way that fits perfectly with eachother, is like a concept album where everything is connected.
Try it like that and it will unfolds for the masterpiece of ethereal emotions that it is, plus you get Kid A and
Amensiac : )

Kid A is a 5, Amnesiac is a high 3/low 4, the new material is clearly cutting-room floor
material. Nothing really amazing like "Lift" or "I Promise" on here (didn't care that much
for "Follow Me Around", actually).

I would have liked to hear the 40-minute tape of Jonny's modular synths that served as the
starting point for "Idioteque"

For the third disc. There are moments that really shine through, like the isolated string tracks which sound gorgeous and the opening "Why Us" version of Like Spinning Plates. Even this version of True Love Waits, the original version of Pulk/Pull is also fascinating. Sadly there just feels like there is something missing. I think the Minidisc leak, for as good as it was, set the bar simply too high.
