4.5 superb | Elynna | February 25th 21 | German symphonic folk/doom titans Empyrium return after 7 years with their strongest outing since Songs of
Moors and Misty Fields. The immaculate contrasts between dark folk and melancholic doom, between operatic
vocals, whispers and growls, between acoustic guitars and a variety of traditional folk instruments (dulcimer,
flute, violin), elevate Über den Sternen to a higher level, combining the best of old and new Empyrium.

3.0 good | Gary STAFF | December 13th 21 | I wasn't really my thing - however it had some potential. While the album had some *really* excellent moments, the overall package coulnd't impress me that much, despite all the key elements were given for my likings. Real shame, but it happens sometime.

3.5 great | IsaacBG | April 4th 21 | Not sure where the hate is coming from. After a first listen, it's a pretty album that borrows from classical music and develops nicely. As a first-time listener to the band, the vocal style is unique and interesting as this genre goes. If you like Kamelot you'll probably like this band too. rBut don't go in expecting heavy metal shredding all over the place. It's an atmospheric, artistic ballad, and it's not much of a headbanger.

3.5 great | Twilightfern | February 26th 21 | Score is probably going to go way up. This is just from first listen. Not as romantic as rWeiland or Wood Grouse which is stylistically my favorite and not as hazy as Songs of rMoors and Misty Fields. Feels to me like it fits in some atmospheric space between A rWintersunset and The Turn of the Tides, though better than the latter (I do like that rrecord). Excited to give this one more many more listens!

3.0 good | DarkNoctus | February 25th 21 | this album really sounds like it could have come out at any point in empyrium's career and as of yet i'm trying to figure out whether that's a positive or a negative. that said, it's a much stronger album than the turn of the tides. edit: after several listens i'm pretty disappointed. it nails the instrumental palette but what it doesn't get right is what set empyrium apart - the incredible melancholic melodies and harmonies. it honestly make this sound like background music, the only one grabbing my attention being 'the wild swans'. it's pleasant, nothing more.
