In the end, it's not really a surprise that minimal laptop techno never really reached the masses; although
frequently beautiful, it could sometimes sound cerebral and subsequently detached. Leave it to Bjork, then,
to inject some much-needed warmth into those microbeats and found sounds. Although Bjork herself calls
Vespertine a "winter" album, the heartbreaking "Pagan Poetry" and stunning "Unison" burst with life.
The wails and screams of her earlier material are not to be found here, but even when she's whispering,
Bjork conveys more emotion than virtually every other chanteuse out there. When her voice cracks as she
repeats "I love him" over and over again, you can feel something.. and even if you don't know what it
exactly is, by god it's there.

Heavenly. All the tracks emanate a strong feeling of peace, like if there was a choir of angels singing right next to your ears. This album is so incredibly beautiful that's almost unbelievable. All the songs grow on you, especially the highlights: "Hidden Place", "It's Not Up To You", "Pagan Poetry", "Aurora" and the perfect closer "Unison", all of wich are near perfection. If "Homogenic" was an intense, explosive album, "Vespertine" is it's opposite... a warm, calm and insanely beautiful work.

Every now and then an artist comes along who really touches you. Although Björk is vastly different to the music I usually listen to, there is no denying how amazing this album is. One of the all time greats in my opinion.

I want to rate this album a 5, but much of the second half is markedly less successful at conveying what everything in the first half does remarkably. "Unison" is one of my favorite songs ever, though.

Sup Bjork.... you're eccentric, something that always leads to mainstream success (see Lady Gaga). Too bad I'm to much of a hipster impersonator to really care.

Just amazing, there is not one song I skip, Her voice can be soft and intertwine with the rather music box like melody, or on "Aurora' just sore into a beautiful crescendo. Her soft tones and beats creates her most subtle, but sweet album.
