Hardly onto a winner after Midian, Dani and Co release yet another symphonic/melodic/cathartic/whatever Black Metal record that fails to impress. Not all tracks are terrible but hardly their finest work. Listen to Midian and that's all the Cradle of Filth you will ever need.

Cradle of Filth's most bombastic and theatrical offering is often met with very harsh criticism, which in my opinion often is directed towards the band and not towards the music per se. Judging it by the music, this can't be compared with Cradle's best work, but that doesn't mean this is a bad record. It has probably the best orchestation i've heard in a CoF record, very strong riffs and its concept is very interesting and outstandingly written. The main problem is that some of the songs in here fall in cheesy domains, and some of the choruses are really weak, but in resume this is a very enjoyable record.

cradle losing their creative touch. death of love is an amazing track, especially with the addition of the lovely female vox by the mysterious carolyn gretton, and 13th caesar is pretty good despite gilles being no where near a caesar, but then its an hour of very mid tracks with cringe narration bits

Extreme metal band Cradle of Filth have been a group that, in the past, I used to either avoid or feel completely neutral about them; their cover of Iron Maiden's "Hallowed Be Thy Name", though, is pretty good for what it was trying to do. Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder is not even close to being an indirect album on CoF's part, for it's quite prolonged and relies so much on symphonic arrangements that the results can be somewhat hilarious. Fortunately enough, the record at least contains overall acceptable songwriting which goes a little swimmingly with Dani Filth's distinctive vocal style always revolving him to supply overdramatic shrieks. If you're a diehard fan of this entourage - though I doubt there isn't a lot since Cradle's mocked to sickening death - this'll perhaps be slightly engaging.

I don't know why a lot of people dislike this album i think it's one of there best albums but you have to listen it to beginning to the end. Don't listen to the last song it's instrumental (Corpseflower track # 13) and the Narrator say's something like "this is what I've done" to me it kinda ruins the album just stop the cd after the self titled song (which is the 12th song out of 13).

Literally the most annoying and offensive extreme metal record to be generated in the past ten years. Staccato female singing litters the "dark" atmosphere of the album, and the vocals of Dani Filth have only gotten worse. The musicianship is not noteworthy in the slightest, and a concept throughout the album that could have easily been an excellent plot is approached in a pathetic manner, therefore leading to the conclusion that Cradle Of Filth are desperate to do anything to continue shoving their "dark and enigmatic" image down our throats. Even if we DON'T want it.

Cradle of Filth are a band that had to grow on me. I quite disliked Filth's high pitched screaming, however, began to realize it was ONE element that makes this band good. This album is an example of what those other elements are. The guitar riffs on this album where quite good, the orchestra and chorus parts were nicely done and at times quite haunting, and the lyrics were lyrics you would expect from this band, simply poetic and well written. Its not a full fledged classic Cradle of Filth album, but it is a good one, and for that, I gave it a 4.0
