This album really is damn good. I;ve been a fan for YEEEARS and maybe some may find my rating of 5 to biased and too high, but this is seriously good. real variety in tracks, with no joke songs unlike before which is definmitley a good thing. YGGFC, half truism, and alot like me, also fix you, are all amazing. there is genuinley no bad stuff on here. REALLY GOOD!

In reality, Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace isn't too different from The Offspring's past releases; sure, there some minor kinks to their same patented formula, what would you expect from this twenty some odd year old punk band? The same damn catchy albums they have producing throughout their career.

I saw the music video for 'Kristy, Are You Doing OK?' today and it really helped my culminate my feelings for this album. the offspring have lost nearly all of the energy, attitude, and catchiness that made them a rock radio highlight. they need to stop before we forget they ever had it.
+ .5 for the structure and latter part of hammerhead

You'd think that with as much talent as the Offspring have they'd put forth a solid effort to show the world that they are still alive and kicking ass. Too bad. 'Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace' has been written before, and way better. I am shocked that this is all the veteran punk rockers could come up with; a lazy, uninspired, and ultimately disappointing effort. I expect more from my legends.

This has to be the most disappointing album I've picked up in quite a long time. It's not bad, per se. But this new direction of alternate soft rock and unenthusiastic punk tunes isn't doing the job. I do like that they were experimenting with new sounds, but the results are mixed at best. Comparing this album to past Offspring albums is a fools quest, and isn't a fair analysis (apples to chicken wings). But as it stands alone, there is nothing spectacular about Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace.

RobanDrew i totally agree with you. I'm listenin to the album while im writing. the album rocks. im a fan since i was a baby. ( really!) i liked the emotional songs. half truism , a lot like me they are beautiful. i also liked the single gone away. offspring doesnt always to make core music. emotional is just so fine. they make both perfect 5 stars ***** ( not a slang word lol )
Truth you totally look at it from a wrong angle. dude they are people like us they have lifes they get old. they get experienced. you listen to an experience and this is the way how it evolves. Rock'n 7/24 is not so good. Balance my friend ..balance...

If I were to be comparing them with other bands the new album would earn a 3 , or , considering some of the other Garbage thats out there a 4. However I am comparing this album with the Offspring of the past, the Offspring I knew and love[ed]. As its rating suggest it doesn't compare with Ignition, Smah, Ixnay on the Hombre, or even Americana. It truly and sadly marks the end of an era. An era where the Offspring unapologetically released rocked out to songs like "she's got issues", now their song headlines read "Fix you", and "Christy , are you ok?", What happened to " Oh man she's a bit* and I'm gunna pay!."
Really I am not doing this to harm The Offspring, to be honest some of the tunes don't sound so bad like Half-Truism, I am doing this to take part in a flood of sincere disappointment; that hopes to bring about change...Hopes to bring about Smash II, or hell i would settle with Americana II. Trust me, I was denying the fact that The Offspring was in decline; I defiantly found refuge in Hit That, and waited with confidence in their next album..Wait for 5 years, and for what? For this. Seriously The Offspring the band that I once wished to emulate went emo, and they may never go back... Please come back. Dexter man if you need to grow back the Dreads, and if your going to write another made for chick song lisson to Self-Esteem a few more times.

good opening, faded away a bit, picked up towards the end though.
long gone are the days of the good old punk rock of the self titled, ignition, smash and to some extent ixnay
but then the bubblegum pop-punk-rock aint here either.
the lack of a "joke" track is good. the coldplay esque "a lot like me" and "fix you" are interesting, reasonable tracks in their own rights, but missteps.
i may be living in the past, but i would love Ignition pt. II. aint gonna happen though.
the track name "stuff is messed up" for a song which main lyric is "shit is fucked up" also stinks of commerical interest as opposed to saying what they believe in. however the track itself is pretty good, which is the main thing I suppose.
solid album, better than splinter, equal to conspiracy i would argue, not in style but in overall quality. and i think that conspiracy is still pretty good, even if it poppier. i think that the offspring are yet to produce a bad album; splinter, whilst not setting the world alight, had a couple of decent tracks, and even in its worst moments was never horrible. well maybe 'worst hangover ever' was pretty horrible. but take it as it comes...
