My name is Kathryn Hudson. I tried christian rock. That didn't work. I tried to be more edgy by kissing a person of my same gender. Hook, line and sinker. Now I'm trying to be "vulnerable" and "strong" by proclaiming that I am a woman, an artist* and I'll start by coping the music everyone hated in 2014.

No shots, but I don't really trust sputnikmusic to tell me whether a pop album is good or not. Y'all gave Taylor Swift's "Red" a 2.7, for pete's sake. "Witness" is almost stunningly bad, though. It's actually kind of insane how hitless it is, especially given the fact that Max Martin is credited on almost half of the tracks. There are a couple interesting moments though- Nicki Minaj's verse on "Swish Swish", the two Purity Ring produced tracks, "Chained to the Rhythm", which I think history will absolve. Perry called this record the start of a "new era" and backed that idea up with her seemingly never-ending promo tour. This "era" might be ending way sooner than she thinks.

At face value, this to me seems to be a brutally calculated, dis-ingenious mockery of an album, formulated by record studio executives with a cheat sheet of do's and don't to cross off to make sure to hit every imaginable demographic with this record. From her forced usage of LGBT dancers on SNL, to her "edgy" short blonde haircut that's 4 years behind Miley, to a plethora of tracks that seem concocted during a Chainsmokers brain fart, Witness shows Katy Perry's true colors, a pop queen who's become a slave to the record industry, because she's become a championed bread winner, and her artist integrity has dwindled to the level of pier group tested and approved jingles.

Excellent production and melodies, Katy's vocal delivery is great, especially when it's
more sultry and softer, on songs like Deja Vu or Tsunami. Lyrically this is her weakest
record. While some themes and certain lines are solid, even great at times, it's filled
with horrible, clunky lines, which most definitely don't fit the atmospheric, electronic
style she and her producers were going for. Her songwriting worked on the pop-"rock"
tinged debut album, but here it simply doesn't. Still, overall her best album, as it
shows more ambition and a desire to grow and mature as a musician.
Favorites: Witness, Roulette, Deja Vu, Bon Appetit, Tsunami

It is growing on me. Not too fond of all the songs. Too bad about Nicky Minage featuring on the best song of the album. Love the sound and sample on Swish Swish.

katy perry took some risks with this release and i appreciate that. sadly, pretty much every risk that she took failed miserably, mostly thanks to some god awful lyrics and her usual bland vocal performances. bon apetit is one of the worst singles i've ever heard. 1
