| 0.0 | INTERNATIONAL POPSTAR STEVEN WILSON | October 28th 16 | "The closing track "Exist", is over 15 minutes long, and it's one of the best songs of that
length I've heard in a long time. This was a completely unexpected treat, and is easily my album
of the year for 2016."
I'm very sorry to hear that.

| 4.5 superb | Snide | October 27th 16 | This was released as a complete surprise today, no promotion, nothing. It's possibly one of the
best, if not the best effort in Avenged Sevenfold's discography. M. Shadows is screaming again,
it's a throwback to Waking the Fallen / City of Evil era days. The closing track "Exist", is over
15 minutes long, and it's one of the best songs of that length I've heard in a long time. This was
a completely unexpected treat, and is easily one of my top albums of the year for 2016.

| 5.0 classic | pomerlep | October 27th 16 | As Avenged has done again, they have created a very different album that stands out from any of their previous releases. They took a courageous leap into experimentation that truly paid off. I never got bored listening to "The Stage" from start to finish (unlike Hail to the King), and each song brings in a new taste while staying true to its native sound. Every track works and I can't wait to purchase this bad boy!

| 4.5 superb | cman23kid | October 27th 16 | I'm blown away by this, did not expect them to release such an awesome album. A departure from their previous styles, but still sounding like Avenged Sevenfold. IMO they found their sound.

| 2.0 poor | daysofthunder | October 29th 16 | The musical ambition is there, but holy shit there are no hooks and Sanders is trying way too fucking hard. As bad as HTTK was, at least it had hooks. Really don't see what the hype is all about.

| 3.5 great | MegaResurrectedJake4 | October 27th 16 | This is actually pretty great. Might even be pushed up to a 4. Not a lot of bullshit at all this time around, though I'm not a huge fan of the abundance of solos, but that's a preference of mine. Shadows' voice not being what it used to be holds the album back a bit overall cause he sings out of his range at times, but he still gets the job done for me. "God Damn" is god damn catchy, "Angels" is a solid ballad, "Sunny Disposition" even throws in a pretty phat brass instrument of some sort i believe for its chorus. Whole album adds a bit more mild thrash. And lyrics are just far better overall

| 4.0 excellent | TheMoonchild | October 28th 16 | Wait, Avenged Sevenfold released a new album? So uh... why aren't the songs cheap Metallica ripoffs like they were on the past 3 albums? and why are they actually good?rBasically, this album is both something of a return to their more City of Evil sound and a new direction- both are something the band have been needing for a number of years now. There are a few bum moments here and there but the band finally sound revitalized and inspired, for the first time in 11 years. And the album's biggest surprise arrives in the form of its 15.5 minute final track... which I'll cover in my full review.rRecommended for sure.

| 4.5 superb | beachdude | October 28th 16 | Not getting the average rating... this definitely isn't better than City of Evil or Waking the Fallen. It's not evenrbetter than the self-titled album in fact. A lot of these songs are technically impressive but drag on far too long without any rone section leaving much of a mark, and M. Shadows is easily the worst he's ever sounded on record. It's like these guys rforgot how to write a good hook.

| 5.0 classic | Thomas Soto | September 17th 17 | To be honest, i never thought that they would've be able to top either City of Evil & Nightmare, which were both my favorite albums by them. But this... this was on a whole new level. Exist is a fucking masterpiece.

| 3.5 great | Britch2tiger | October 31st 16 | I think a group has been listening to Mercyful Fate or King Diamond records for a while... At least this band didn't take 15 years (w/ a 7-record gap) to finally craft a decent heavy metal album (cough-cough-Korn-cough-cough). Definitely sounds different from their metalcore roots, but that may be for the better to showcase their instrumental mastery. Even the vocalist is more bearable. I tip my hat to you, A7X.

| 2.5 average | rileyiggy34 | October 28th 16 | The promotion leading up to this album made me pretty excited for it to finally be released. However, the album fell flat for me. The Stage, God Damn, and Creating God are the only memorable tracks on here for me. Matt's voice is barely tolerable, but Syn & Brooks came with so much fire that I can overlook that. It's better than HTTK, but not by much. I'm glad other people seem to like it so much though! I hope it grows on me.

| 3.1 good | Erwann S. EMERITUS | January 3rd 24 | Forgot this was their best. It features every metal aspect the band has ever conjured (mainly heavy, thrash, prog, neoclassical, and core), but this time the balance between each of their influences is quite deftly done. Still can't say it fully satisfies me because of its overlong runtime, but it still is A7X's best proposition.

| 4.0 excellent | BlitzPhoenix98 | August 18th 20 | I don't understand how can a band go from their worst effort to their best in just one album. This is a completely new, refined Avenged Sevenfold which has taken a huge risk in developing a completely different sound, one that could even bring in new fans to newcomers who have not heard an Avenged Sevenfold release yet. Shout-outs to the final song ("Exist") which is a 15-minute epic utilizing 11 different phases and passing each one with flying colors.

| 3.0 good | Resident Metalhead Piranha | July 16th 17 | After the almost career ending misfire in Hail To The King, A7X clean up their act and head back to more advneturous songwriting. While not perfect, The Stage is a step in the right direction and may be their most progressive bound record to date. Drummer Brooks Wackerman is a welcome fit for the group, and while he isn't the composer powerhouse The Rev was, he plays his drums well and more finesse than anything on HTTK with nifty fills and impressive double bass rhythms. Synyster Gates brings forth impressive solos and solid riffs in spades, and the lyrics and themes mostly compensate for a tired out vocal performance which isn't unbearable but shows wear and tear more than before. "God Damn" is a thrashy number with a fun hook and precise drumming and riffs, the opening t/t is a proggy track following the footsteps of Dream Theatre, "Paradigm" and "Sunny Disposition" are driven by their lyrics and hooks, "Creating God" follows suit with a rockier tempo, and "Exist" is the band's longest composition ever made and one that spirals in and out of tempo changes and sound effects and is a career highlight and excellent closer. If they stick this route, A7X may bring greater works to come, but The Stage is one of their finer records to date and an overall enjoyable, engaging album.

| 3.5 great | BRAman22 | January 29th 17 | While The Stage is clearly an Avenged Sevenfold album, it sees them experimenting with their sound a bit on a few songs. These songs, ones like Sunny Disposition and Exist, are when this album is at its best. The rest of the songs are fine, but they feel samey compared with the rest of Avenged Sevenfold's discography.

| 3.0 good | Jared Floryan | December 3rd 16 | Based in Huntington Beach, Californian heavy metal outfit Avenged Sevenfold were one of my gateway bands growing up. Much flopping was done during the point in my life where I was first introduced to them. In retrospect, they're not really a bad troupe by any stretch, just nothing special. The impression gotten from previous records was that A7X emphasized quantity and bombast over... well, pure quality from beginning to end. Outside of acquiring a new percussionist in former Bad Religion drummer Brooks Wackerman, the band's latest offering The Stage boasts a familiar stench. Featuring an amalgam of thrash sensibilities a la City of Evil and melodic undertones alongside uneven experimentalism via Avenged Sevenfold, this entourage's seventh album is certainly a fun outing; miles better than the predictable Hail to the King. The Stage from an instrumental standpoint is enjoyable, with Wackerman himself being the MVP here while Synyster Gates isn't far behind concerning the status. Despite neat composition ideas and decent production, however, what ruins the entertainment factor for me is vocalist M. Shadows - who far too often sings beyond what he's actually capable of. Combine his unbearable performance with the fact some tracks could benefit from serious trimming and we've got an overall salvageable (if flawed) affair on A7X's part. Angel recommends: "Paradigm," "Sunny Disposition," "Creating God," "Fermi Paradox," and not cheap wine.

| 3.0 good | theat001 | November 3rd 16 | My opinion, if anyone cares to read it:The
album is a great amalgamation of the band's
best moments and their new drummer really
works with them. The only thing they did too
much (that they always do too much) is sweep
picking in the solos. There's like one song
that didn't just resort to sweeping. It is an
impressive technique, and these guys have it
mastered, but it takes away from how
impressive it sounds when it's featured on
every song. Also, as always, shadows voice
sounds worse than ever. He almost sounds like
it hurts him to sing this. That said, I'll
forgive it because the actual songs are
tighter than they've done in a while and I'm
kind of a geek for concept albums.

| 1.5 very poor | dihstyle69 | November 2nd 16 | atrocious hooks, overly produced tracks, abysmal lyrics as usual, songs that overstay that welcome... there's no sign of growth here, but there are clear signs of them running out of ideas to try and stay as relevant as they once used to be. 1.5
