radio rock mixed in with a bunch of experimentation can go two ways: good or sour. No need to hold your nose, there is no sour here; Falling Up creates a great album filled with beautiful vocal harmonies and tons of new sounds you would never hear in any rock album. However, there are things that remain from classic Falling Up. If you were not a huge fan of the religious lyrics, now is no time to get your hopes up; God-filled lyrics are aplenty but the great thing is that they do not come off as being preachy or forceful. In previous releases, Falling Up embraced a nu-metal sound but on Captiva that entire sound has been ditched. Captiva is rooted directly in radio friendly rock but don't let that boring genre stop you from listening; Captiva aims high and scores high.
