| 4.0 excellent | TheManMachine | April 10th 16 | Rocks half the tracks/less than half the length/barely a wisp of the pampering dispatched on last year's unassailable do-I-even-have-to-say-it hip-hop smash, but I'll be damned if this isn't nearly as indispensable. The creepin' slow-burn jazz-hop understatements are fresh in their reserve, particularly showcasing Thundercat's uber-resonant bass-work and encouraging flows to come gleam on through the demo-ish dust; the xtra doses of fervor and clarity accentuated without any abandonment of lexical density. Of course there's also the prolonged+hissy passage of behind-the-scenes badinage/tune-planning, perhaps superfluously consummating the whole 'unmastered' slant. But it makes for some pretty warm waste, I gotta say. Whereas the rest is more like world-class waste.

| 4.0 excellent | gotsthedewsdood | March 4th 16 | While this project consists of tracks that were penned around the TPAB studio sessions, they are arranged in a way that flow smoothly giving this collection of songs their own identity. Since these are demos, some of the tracks have unfinished qualities and the instrumentals are kinda barebones compared to the denseness of TPAB, but Kendrick delivers with a variety of flows and dense wordplay, a lot of which I've yet to decipher. Untitled 3,6, and 8 are solid while 1,2, 5 and 7 are excellent.

| 0.0 | Jeffery J. Bigglestein | June 25th 20 | Only Kendrick can have an album full of "b-sides and rejects" be some of his best work. A rare instance of a non-bloated Kendrick project.
Bump |
| 4.5 superb | nukethewhale | July 7th 16 | King Kendrick showing us he not just a 3 album hit wonder and might still have some left in the tank. Prob a 4.5 if Untitled 3
was the same as on the Colbert Show
EDIT: FUCK IT its a 4.5. DAMN. being a disappointment really showed how great Kendrick was during his TPAB sessions.
Bump |
| 3.0 good | BRAman22 | July 5th 16 | Basically a glorified album of bonus tracks. With that in mind it's actually a bit better than expected.
Bump |
| 4.0 excellent | cjbizzlebizzle | April 3rd 16 | Kendrick's excess is excellence. The dude is just at the top of the game right now and can't be contained or even approached by anyone consistently. An obvious collection of b-sides and extras from recent Kendrick productions with funk, jazz and hip hop all colliding beautifully with Kendrick's great lyricism and style. I would consider everything but 04 and 07 tracks that I would throw on anytime. One thing I feel like this really accentuates is Lamar's masterful ability to compose albums. This perhaps defines him as an artist as Section 80, Good Kid and Butterfly are all so well put together. The fact that these excellent tracks were left off his full length really makes it seem like he has an other worldly ability to compile a list of tracks into an art piece.
Bump |
| 4.0 excellent | thisismyusername | March 31st 16 | I enjoyed this release from K.Dot but people are making too much of a deal about it, its simply a compilation of B sides and unfinished tracks it should not be taken as a legitimate release of concentrated work. Nevertheless I enjoyed it

untitled unmastered. is the fourth studio album from Kendrick Lamar. This album contains songs that didn't make To Pimp a Butterfly which were recorded from 2013-2016. These are throwaway songs and it's still better than most rapper's best works. Kendrick definitely delivered here and gave us this great piece of art. This album is about the 7 Deadly Sins and contains themes of biblical revelation. He also undermines the governmental institutions America worships, worries about his homies back in Compton, becomes distracted by the fruits of his labor, and also speaks on government, youth, race, and life. Kendrick's subject matters here are unique, inspiring, and meaningful and Kendrick does them justice. Kendrick's lyricism is just so insanely complex and poetic. Like almost no one could pull off these type of lyrics. The production is amazing and smoothly mixes elements of trap, jazz, funk, and soul. It contains a heavy bass, great hi hat rolls, nice melodies, and beautiful samples. I really love how he experiments with different production styles here. His flow is straight up flawless. He impressively spits multiple, unique melodies and flows over these fantastic instrumentals incredibly. The guest line up (Jay Rock, SZA, Bilal, Thundercat, Cee Lo Green, Anna Wise, Terrace Martin, and Punch) all did an outstanding job with their beautiful vocals and fire verses. My only complaints are that it's boring and repetitive, it doesn't have much replay value (for a Kendrick album), and the tracklist is slightly inconsistent. untitled unmastered. is an amazing album that really showcases Kendrick's creativity and genius and I highly recommend it.

| 3.0 good | notkanyewest | March 11th 16 | If you thought "To Pimp a Butterfly" was dense and difficult, wait til you hear these demos! Even if it's from the genre's current #1, coming off one of the release of one of the great hip hop records of the decade last year, "Untitled. Unmastered" is a collection of b-sides, and it plays like it. The great moments are great, but most of it is just ok, which is fine. A fine, if ultimately inessential companion piece to TPAB.
Bump |
| 4.0 excellent | Alabaster Jones | March 8th 16 | It's only a compilation of unreleased stuff he made around the time of To Pimp A Butterfly's recording, but it's very well done. Only a few of the songs here are up to the task of fitting in TPAB's tracklist seamlessly, namely "Untitled 3"(the song which he performed on "The Colbert Report" last year), "Untitled 5", and "Untitled 8", but that does not make the rest of the material here unworthy to be heard. Musically, it sounds similar to the endless jazz and funk dynamics that peppered TPAB, and there are several moments on this release that carry very similar ideas and themes to the topics that record dealt with. Of course, they were ultimately more fleshed out later, but it's interesting to hear those thoughts in an infant form. And though it's not quite a release that anyone expected, it's still a pleasant surprise and definitely something to tide over fans until a new album is released.

| 0.0 | Finn Baker | March 4th 16 | I'm sorry, it just really didn't impress me. Track 5 was phenomenal, Track 8 was pretty great, Track 4 was horrendous. I feel like those are the only things that stood out. There's a reason these were B-sides. Also, is this the first time two albums from the same artist have been in the Trending Albums section on this site?

| 3.5 great | NewBallistics | March 4th 16 | Leftovers from TPAB sessions, which is good if you look at it like just a compilation of B-sides. The title says it all so this isn't exactly accessible. Overall, I really enjoyed the unpolished and raw production, especially on tracks like 5/28 and 9/21. The standout however is 6/30 for sure. I'm loving that hook that keeps coming back "I can't explainnnnnnn!" Catchy as fuck.

| 4.0 excellent | dihstyle69 | March 4th 16 | definitely a very interesting ep to listen to, especially because it feels like an expansion of to pimp a butterfly, but i just can't ignore the fact that some of these tracks feel a bit unpolished and incomplete. kendrick is a perfectionist, so listening to this unmastered ep is a bit weird coming from him.. can't lie! somehow, this ep manages to sound better than most albums released throughout the year. worth a few spins for what it is! 4-
