Before I bought this album, I hadn't had much experience with brutal Death Metal. Nile was the only brutal Death Metal band that I would give a listen, and that was mainly because of some of their Egyptian themes and mild progressive elements. However, Immolation managed to make a very good first impression on me. This album contains some of the craziest brutal Death Metal out there. Many of the riffs make my skin crawl, but, at the end of the day I just want to headbang like a madman to every single song on this album, which is a serious plus for any Metal band. Now, while I like the album, there just really wasn't anything truly original about it. Therefore, I'm not going to give it an outrageous score. Still, this album brings some top notch Death Metal, and I truly recommend this to any Death Metal fan. Of course, if you don't like Death Metal, then there is nothing here that will change your mind. This is straight up brutal Death Metal that will beat your cranium into pieces.
Great example of death metal done right. Production is natural enough to not sound fake but doesn't sound like it was recorded in somebody's basement. Band does a great job of writing killer riffs and songs that sound great, rather than trying to write the fastest/most complex thing they can like many DM bands.
