From the first note to the last, Morning Phase walks a razor's edge of ambivalent feelings, paradoxically combining melancholic and reflective lyrics with music that is slow but hopeful sounding. The contrast is poetic, deep, and satisfying.

Pretty mellow this one. Sometimes too mellow; its lethargic attributes at times bordering on shallowness. But when it doesn't - which is most of the time -, it manages to perfectly accompany a weakly sunny autumnal afternoon.

I have no idea why I love this record so much. I normally find Beck incredibly annoying. Yet this album sticks with me. Time and again this is my cleansing opener to my day when I cannot quite muster the oomph for some heavier rock. A palate cleanser, but so much more.
