| 4.5 superb | Matthijs van der Lee | January 14th 10 | You have to give Dark Side of the Moon your full and undivided attention before its brilliance can truly sink in. While moments such as the popular Money and Time have become classic rock staples and are the most recognizable tracks here, they work even better within the context and concept of the album. The creativity used to produce the trippy On the Run and wrenching The Great Gig in the Sky is boundless, and when at first these tracks will be underappreciated, the flow they provide for the album is later realised to be nothing less than essential. From the opening heartbeat of Speak to Me until the last fading seconds of Eclipse, Dark Side of the Moon is, over and over, again and again, a real journey, full of powerful emotions, stunning lyrics and musicianship that only the brilliant mind of Pink Floyd could provide at the height of its power. Coming only shortly after their magnum opus Wish You Were Here, this album is easily the group's second most seminal piece of work.

| 4.5 superb | Chris Jackson | June 21st 06 | Pink Floyds Dark Side of the Moon is one of the most popular and well known albums of all time. While the album is superb it isn't Floyds best album, but I can see why it got so much critical acclaim. The albums definately got range, 'Breathe' is a slow, atmospheric track powered by a simple guitar riff and Waters soothing vocal delivery fits in perfectly. 'Us and Them' is as soothing and jazzy as it gets, featuring a jazzy saxophone line and a soulful chorus. 'Money' is another jazzy tune with a groovy guitar solo and a choppy guitar riff. The albums closer 'Eclipse' is the most upbeat track off the album and is filled with hard hitting drums and psychadelic vocals. The album clearly has a lot of range and it mixes in psychadelic, jazz, and basic rock music. It's been more then 30 years since Dark Side of the Moon was released, and it is still fun to listen to since it is very relaxing and soothing.

| 5.0 classic | patrickfannon | May 13th 11 | If you have ever had any interest in getting lost, quite literally, in a body of music, look no further. Floyd's epic, sprawling, spooky, enthralling, downright beautiful meditation on the brevity of life, the immenence of death, the problems of war, poverty, and insanity, and the search for some over-arching truth that might illuminate or explain everything. Then again, listening to the album, one gets the distinct feeling that Waters and Gilmour did not believe in the possibility of a coherent response to the questions they bemoaned so elegantly. "All that you touch, and all that you see, is all your life will ever be." A masterpiece of classic, progressive rock and enduringly resounding testament to the power of curiosty.

| 3.5 great | Nick Butler STAFF | June 27th 06 | There's a reason that stoners think Dark Side Of The Moon is the best album ever - they've smoked so much that they've fallen asleep by Side 2. Yes, the opening 5 tracks of Dark Side Of The Moon are truly stunning, and just about worthy of the praise they get. But from "Us & Them" onwards, the album dips considerably. The final 4 tracks just aren't good enough for this record to be a classic. Not the best album ever, and not even Pink Floyd's best (or even 2nd best, or 3rd best). Just get lost in the great part of the record, cut it off after "Money", and pretend it's an EP.

| 5.0 classic | Mikkel | January 11th 12 | True love never dies. I've loved this record since the first time I heard it in it's entirety (admittedly, I was really stoned!) If you don't like this, you're an idiot. Time sums up everything that's amazing about Pink Floyd, and Brain Damage + Eclipse are just fantastic closing-tracks.

| 5.0 classic | Victoria Michelle Coia | July 1st 10 | Easily the best album of all time. I remember going through my Dad's record collection and finding this album. I saw it was Pink Floyd and knew they were good, but when I looked on the back the only song I know was "Money" so for some stupid reason I was hesitant on playing this album. Today I cannot believe how stupid I am because this record remains my favorite. I will always hold this album as the gold standard of music because it simply proved Pink Floyd are the best band of the 70's and they are not be fucked with. Now to the album. Sure it's pretentious at times *cough* "Time" *cough*, but everything works so well. "Speak to Me/Breathe" is an absolute stunner and that's only the start. "Us and Them" is pure awesomeness and well so is the ending song "Brain Damage". People just need to realize that another album like this will never be made, and I for one couldn't be happier.

| 3.0 good | chigh | December 20th 06 | I do not understand the "classic" status many people give this album. I think DSotM is not a bad album -- it is good, but this band has several other albums which surpass this as better work. However, the success of this album and the devotion of its fans says quite a bit about the stature of this LP. We all can't be perfect.

| 5.0 classic | immortalizepain | August 5th 12 | Expecting the band to fall out after the leaving of principal member Syd Barrett is a very wrong notion. The Dark Side of the Moon has proven that Pink Floyd's silly experimentation will make sure that they'll survive. The ridiculous usage of household objects, mixed with advanced production is the band's staple to make this album big. Every track is amazingly done, yet the highlight for me is the non-lexical vocals heard at The Great Gig in the Sky, and the tracks Money and Us and Them.

| 5.0 classic | chris | June 28th 12 | The music that make up The Dark Side Of The Moon are compositions that simply describing by mere words do them no justice. This is Pink Floyd's greatest album and in my opinion the greatest album of all time. I listen to this when I'm awake i listen to this when I'm asleep i am looking forward to listening to this when I'm not and it's all i can think about 90% of the time. It may not musically be the best album ever but that isn't what art is about it is about creating and showing strong emotions and the Dark Side Of The Moon does that better then any other album ever.
Bump |
| 0.0 | Gwynbleiddsfang | June 12th 12 | It's one of those strange albums that, quite simply, has everything it must have and it does it with very few chances of getting better. The albums biggest charm for me is the fact it just flows so well, the entire album just transitions as if it was just one big song divided in 10 parts(the first time i heard it, i literally could not tell when did the songs started and ended until the actual album concluded). 'Money', 'Speak to Me', 'Eclipse', etc, all have earned a strong place in rock history, but all of them are even better when you hear the album in it's entirety and understand each others concepts and connections to it each other(this is, after all, a concept album), and just appreciate what it all comes down to for the album. It's a very soothing experience, with a very wide range, going to Jazz, straight rock and other times even arguably noise music(arguably), but as i have said, it all magically blends together into a 46 minute-long(roughly) relaxing, reflexing and, some times, epic, trip. Whatever you may think of it or it's position against other Floyd albums, this is unquestionably their Magnum Opus (in case you got it mixed up, Magnum Opus means the most acclaimed/renowned/Popular piece from a writer or composer. Regardless of it's actual quality, there is absolutely no arguing that no other Floyd album has received the amount of praise and recognizion this one has, Hell, it's the second best selling album of all time(which often leads to the other albums being unjustly ignored, sadly)), and, In my personaly opinion, it deserves it.

| 4.5 superb | Bob | May 31st 12 | This album is freaking awesome! One of the best ever! The highest 4.5 ever! Then again, this might be the nostalgia talking. Having literally listened to only this CD until the age of 15 isn't a very insignificant memory. Still, aside from having many important memories linked to this CD... This is still an unbelievably good record. The ambience is so soothing and warm that I almost regret not ever having used weed. Aside from the nostalgia, I'm happy that I'm not the only one (finally) thinking this is a brilliant album.

Its simplicity is a testament to its genius. Dark Side of the Moon is simultaneously insanity and genius.

The same is true with 'The Dark Side of the Moon': I initially criticized this album a fair share after first listening to it. In time, though, this album has grown on me. | 5.0 classic | rapsucks | June 24th 11 | Pink Floyd has always intrigued me in their combination of pscychedelic instrumentations and philosophical lyrics. Nowhere is this more prominent than in The Dark Side Of The Moon. Not only does it contain some of the most interesting and recognizable songs Pink Floyd ever released, but it is a concept album that takes a negative, almost cynical view of society. The instrumentations range from simple tape loops found in On The Run, to the complex synthesizers of Any Colour You Like. It still stands as one of the most memorable progressive rock albums of all time.
The Dark Side Of The Moon is also diverse and unlike any other album you'll hear. It manages to evoke the emotions of everyday life from heartbeat to heartbeat without seeming over-dramatic. Take Us And Them as an example. It degrades war as pointless and does so while still being quiet and beautiful. The melodies are also instrumental (no pun intended) in making the listener feel the correct mood for the song. Rick Wright delivers his usual amazing skills at the synthesizer, and David Gilmour does some of his best guitar work I've ever heard.
Each song on the album fades seemlessly into the next and almost seems like one complete song. The instrumentation is brilliant and catchy. For example, Money manages to make a rhythm simply out of the sound of coins, registers, and paper. The vocals ,both lead and harmony, are also outstanding. Each song feels like a separate adventure, and keeps you wondering what will fade in next. Beginning and ending with a faint heartbeat, the entire album is an outstanding symphony you'll never forget. Each time you listen to it, you are swept away into a hypnotic and soothing 42 minute medley by four of the greatest musicians that ever graced the music industry.

| 5.0 classic | stratfan7 | April 13th 10 | DSOTM is a masterpiece. Being a well-known band, Pink Floyd's music has been cheapened by radio airplay alongside other "classic" rock bands like Foreigner and Def Leppard. Because of this, we all hear these songs quite often but never realize their power. But after listening to the full album all the way through, it becomes clear that DSOTM is indeed one of the greatest and most powerful albums ever created

| 5.0 classic | GimmeShelter | March 22nd 10 | A great goddamn album. The whole flow of it makes it as though it's one great song, it's not "Money" and "Time", it's just The Dark Side Of The Moon. Just like time and money aren't real in life, just words for things we feel need to be there to keep structure. That's what this is one big song broken down to keep structure. It's one of those timeless albums, one of those albums where you also say "I know there is alot of instances of symbolism in this, but if I sit down and try to pinpoint them, I'm going to get a headache trying."

| 4.0 excellent | Progmaster85 | January 11th 10 | "Dark Side of the Moon" is not only usually considered Pink Floyd's finest album, but it is considered one of the most experimental and important albums in history. While it is not Floyd's opus, it is definitely a close second or third. Released in 1973, this record experimented with sounds and audio clips that had never been used in modern music before, (such as the themes in "Money" and "Time") and this album is monumental for doing that, however, although this album was a futuristic epitome of creativity, it does fall to the Pink Floyd curse. That curse is inconsistency. There are tracks such as "On the Run" that were definitely 'cool' back in the day for being so spacey, but when observed carefully, one would have to question the tastefulness of such superfluous repetition. This repetition is also present on some of the other tracks on the album. The album definitely has some of that old Floyd filler, but "Dark Side" is still a fantastic achievement. It may seem like I'm bashing one of the most important albums ever, but I'm not, I'm simply pointing out the tiny flaws that need to be addressed. This record contains some of Pink Floyd's finest work, like Floyd's opus track, the virtually flawless "Us and Them", the totally awesome "Money" and the highly entertaining "Any Colour you Like". There are some unnecessary progressions in a few songs, but this is still an excellent progressive record nonetheless. This CD is fantastic though full of filler, but it's legacy shall live on. For me, tied with "Meddle".

purely amazing progressive and psychadelic rock. The album oozes innovation, and the echoey
and eerie sounds reflect a very odd state of mind. Which I imagine is reminiscent of the
drugs induced to create and to influence this record. In regards to the genre, only In the
Court of the Crimson King should be mentioned in the same breath, without a doubt, one of
the most monumental and masterful albums of all time.
