| 4.0 excellent | Dakota West Foss | January 15th 13 | If Ascension was a summation of where they've been, Descension is the next step in Coheed's storied (ha.ha.) career. And what a weird step it is. There's trumpets, mandolins, ukuleles, and plenty of whoa-oh's spread across the album's nine tracks, resulting in a sound that is, overall, far more positive and poppy than anyone could have expected. The tracks that do get dark, Gravity's and Sentry the Defiant, also happen to be instant Coheed classics. Descension isn't going to change anyone's mind about Coheed, but it does end the Afterman saga on an incredibly high note.

| 2.3 average | John Kisses Boys Hanson STAFF | January 15th 13 | I don't know what you guys are thinking. This is the same shit as Year if the Black Rainbow, with more guitar pedals and vocal effects. Number City is a really cool pop song, and Gravity's almost becomes something great, but the rest of the album is full of boring songwriting and extremely forgettable riffs. Coheed and Cambria are fucking dead.

| 4.0 excellent | Anthracks | January 16th 13 | Definitely their strongest since Good Apollo I. The tail side is a little weaker than the incredibly strong front of the album. It's nice to see Claudio taking some risks again, as opposed to the incredibly safe (but good) Ascension; I'm glad they are doing Prog again.
Highlights: Number City (Unreal how good this song is), Gravity's, Sentry the Defiant

| 5.0 classic | BringerOfStorms | January 20th 13 | If you're a fan of Coheed, this album is absolute perfection. If you're not, well, it should
still sound pretty damn close to perfection. As the others on this page have mentioned,
Ascension was a safe, yet catchy and fun record. This one is all over the fucking place, yet
it still remains unbelievably infectious and fun. From the heavier-than-hell B standard
riffs of Sentry to the poppy, Police-inspired vibes of Number City, this record will
constantly keep you coming back for more with its undeniable twists and turns. While we're
at it with the praise, Gravity's Union is a surefire contender for one of the best songs of
2013 and is surely among the best songs the band has ever written. "Caged, locked in
perpetual motion; carving our wounds wide open."

| 3.5 great | Travis Montgomery | May 20th 13 | A Little less enjoyable than Ascension, but both are are easily better than GA:2 and YotBR, so Coheed has definitely re-found their direction. 3.6/5

| 3.0 good | Andrew Walker | May 14th 13 | Coheed and Cambria make a Coheed and Cambria album. That sounds a lot like Coheed and Cambria. Too bad I'm burnt out on Coheed and Cambria.
Bump |
| 3.5 great | Seth Barry-Hinton | March 16th 13 | Claudio needs to get off the Amory Wars and find something else to write about, because the lyrics on here are painfully bad. The music, as per usual, is fire.

Bump |
| 3.5 great | WhiteLocust | February 6th 13 | The album loses pace quite a bit. I assume due to storyline but it's disappointing considering how well it started off. Still, there are some amazing songs on here.

| 2.5 average | Monstar1790 | February 5th 13 | Four great songs. Five underwhelming ones...and yes, I like the back-end better than the front. So sue me.

| 4.0 excellent | RevenantBlue | February 4th 13 | Am I the only person who thinks "Dark Side of Me" was actually written about the relationship between Adventure Time's Marceline and the Ice King?
Bump |
| 4.5 superb | Vajs | January 31st 13 | Can't stop listening to The Hard Sell, Claudio really has the ability to put it all on every song, and this album more than delivers the goods B-)
Bump |
| 2.5 average | donaldo11 | January 28th 13 | Back half is incredibly weak. Front half is quite strong though. Still, its hard to justify this being two albums when there is really only one album worth of solid material between the two releases, and most of the weaker stuff is found here.
Bump |
| 3.5 great | NonApplicable | January 24th 13 | Original Score: 3
Although there are standout moments on the record, the latter half is plagued with average
instrumentation and somewhat forgettable songwriting. The dialogue intermissions, are
largely devoid of musicianship and seem tacked on.
Lyrically, the album is guilty of both pretentious tendencies and triumphant story telling.
A coherent and admittedly interesting story can be followed here, but the vocalist awkwardly
and tirelessly forces "love"(the album's theme) down the throat of the listener.
While Coheed and Cambria have crafted a decent collection of songs, I hesitate to
reciprocate the same appraisal for the entire album experience. This record is heavily
predicated on story telling. Musically, the weaker content should be left off. Conceptually,
that practice would gape the story experience.

| 2.5 average | Scott Baldwin | January 22nd 13 | If I had to rate this album based on vocals alone, it'd be an instant 5/5. Claudio hasn't sounded this good since Good Apollo I. That being said, this album is better than the directionless and disappointing predecessor but it still lacks in quite a few places. It's a good pop album but not a lot of the songs, save for Sentry The Defiant stand out- though I am a bit biased because I first heard it when they opened for my favourite band (Iron Maiden). rHIGHLIGHTS:rSentry the DefiantrDark Side of MerGravity'srIron Fist
