Coheed and Cambria were formed in 2000 out of the remains of the band Shabutie. Singer/guitarist ClaudioSanchez, MicTodd(bass), Travis Stever (guitar) and Joshua Eppard (drums) to form Coheed and Cambria.

Two years later, their debut, The Second Stage Turbine Blade, was released on Equal Vision and gathered a lot of fans quitequickly. Based around the story of husband and wife, Coheed and Cambria, the album was the first to be released in a series offive concept albums (coming in second in the chronological order of the albums'concurrentconceptualevents). After excessivetouring and a near breakup, a follow-up album, In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3,was recorded in 2003. The albumcontained a mixture of pop punk-styled songs and Rush-tinged progressive rock songs. With singles like "A Favor House Atlantic" and "Blood Red Summer," the band received considerable airplay on MTV and on the radio. The band followed InKeeping Secrets with Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume 1: From Fear Through The Eyes Of Madness in late2005. Often abbreviated as Good Apollo 1, the album was the fourth chapter in the story surrounding Coheed andCambria's only surviving son, Claudio.

Following the release of Good Apollo 1, several incidents within the band brought forth disagreements and hard feelings.Theband released a live concert, entitled "The Last Supper: Live at the Hammerstein Ballroom,"shortly before bassist Mic Todd anddrummer Josh Eppard were removed from the band to deal with severe drug addictions. The DVD was to serve almost as afarewell to the two members, a sort of "Goodbye, this is what you are leaving, this is how we wish to be remembered"statement. Months later, however, Todd rejoined the band(having been temporarily replaced for live shows by Matt Williams).Eppard was replaced by Chris Pennie of TheDillinger Escape Plan.

Since then, the band has released the second part of their final album, entitled Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume 2: NoWorld For Tomorrow. Returning to the story of the Amory Wars, this album closes the story of The Crowing and his battle onthe planets of the Keywork. Having been recorded while Pennie was still involved with his former band, Taylor Hawkins of theFoo Fighters recorded percussion for the album.

The band has since released a DVD entitled "Neverender," a live recording of a 4 night show in which they played theirdiscography to that point. In 2010 Coheed released Year of the Black Rainbow to generally positive reviews. Said album isthe first and last to feature Pennie on drums, as he left due to creative differences not long after. The album is also the last tofeature bassist Mic Todd as well, since he was arrested on July 10, 2011 for robbing a Walgreens in Attleboro, Massachusetts.Todd has since been replaced by newcomer Zach Cooper, while Pennie's place was filled by a rehabilitated and drug-free JoshEppard.

This line, up the band's most current as of 2012, recorded their newest set of material, entitled The Afterman, which is set torelease in two parts as a double album. The first part, The Afterman: Ascension, will be released on October 9, 2012,whilethe latter portion, The Afterman: Descension will be released in February 2013. The double album chronicles the adventuresof the discoverer of the Keywork, Sirus Amory. Their future is uncertain, but whatever they choose to do it will surely be of theirconsistent quality. « hide
